Deuteronomium 20

Studie

   

1 Když bys vytáhl na vojnu proti nepřátelům svým, a uzřel bys koně a vozy, a lid větší, nežli ty máš, neboj se jich, nebo Hospodin Bůh tvůj s tebou jest, kterýž tě vyvedl z země Egyptské.

2 A když byste se již potýkati měli, přistoupí kněz, a mluviti bude k lidu,

3 A dí jim: Slyš, Izraeli, vy jdete dnes k boji proti nepřátelům svým, nebudiž strašlivé srdce vaše, nebojte se a nestrachujte, ani se jich lekejte.

4 Nebo Hospodin Bůh váš, kterýž jde s vámi, bojovati bude za vás proti nepřátelům vašim, aby zachoval vás.

5 Potom mluviti budou hejtmané k lidu, řkouce: Jest-li kdo z vás, ješto vystavěl dům nový, a ještě nepočal bydliti v něm, odejdi a navrať se do domu svého, aby nezahynul v bitvě, a někdo jiný aby nezačal bydliti v něm.

6 A kdo jest, ješto štípil vinici, a ještě nepřišla k obecnému užívání, odejdi a navrať se k domu svému, aby snad nezahynul v bitvě, aby někdo jiný k obecnému užívání nepřivedl jí.

7 A kdo jest, ješto by měl zasnoubenou manželku, a ještě by jí nepojal, odejdi a navrať se do domu svého, aby neumřel v boji, a někdo jiný nevzal jí.

8 Přidadí i toto hejtmané, mluvíce k lidu, a řeknou: Kdo jest bázlivý a lekavého srdce, odejdi a navrať se do domu svého, aby nezemdlil srdce bratří svých, jako jest srdce jeho.

9 A když přestanou hejtmané mluviti k lidu, tedy představí lidu vůdce houfů.

10 Když přitáhneš k některému městu, abys ho dobýval, podáš jemu pokoje.

11 Jestliže pokoj sobě podaný přijmou a otevrou tobě, všecken lid, kterýž by nalezen byl v něm, pod plat uvedeni jsouce, tobě sloužiti budou.

12 Pakli by v pokoj s tebou nevešli, ale bojovali proti tobě, oblehneš je;

13 A když by je Hospodin Bůh tvůj dal v ruku tvou, tedy zbiješ v něm ostrostí meče všecky pohlaví mužského.

14 Ženy pak, dítky a hovada, i cožkoli bylo by v městě, všecky kořisti jeho rozbituješ sobě, a užívati budeš kořistí nepřátel svých, kteréž by dal tobě Hospodin Bůh tvůj.

15 Tak učiníš všechněm městům daleko vzdáleným od tebe, kteráž nejsou z měst národů těchto.

16 Z měst pak lidu toho, kterýž Hospodin Bůh tvůj dává tobě v dědictví, žádné duše živiti nebudeš,

17 Ale dokonce vyhladíš je: Hetea, Amorea, Kananea, Ferezea, Hevea a Jebuzea, jakož přikázal tobě Hospodin Bůh tvůj,

18 Aby vás neučili činiti vedlé všech ohavností svých, kteréž činí bohům svým, i hřešili byste proti Hospodinu Bohu svému.

19 Když oblehneš město některé, za dlouhý čas dobývaje ho, abys je vzal, nezkazíš stromů jeho, sekerou je vytínaje, nebo z nich ovoce jísti budeš; protož jich nevysekáš, (nebo potrava člověka jest strom polní), chtěje užívati jich k obraně své.

20 A však stromoví, kteréž znáš, že nenese ovoce ku pokrmu, pohubíš a posekáš, a vzděláš ohrady proti městu tomu, kteréž s tebou bojuje, dokudž ho sobě nepodmaníš.

1097. 'Canaan will be a slave to him' means that such people as make worship consist solely in external things are among those who are able to perform inferior services to members of the Church. This becomes clear especially from the representatives in the Jewish Church. In the Jewish Church the internal Church was represented by Judah and Israel - the celestial Church by Judah, the spiritual by Israel - and the external Church by Jacob. People however who made worship consist solely in external things were represented by 'the gentiles' whom they called foreigners. The latter were to be 'their slaves' and were to perform inferior services in the Church, as in Isaiah,

Aliens will stand and pasture your flock, and sons of the foreigner will be your field-workers and your vine-dressers; and you will be called the priests of Jehovah, you will be spoken of as the ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of the gentiles, and in their glory will you glory. Isaiah 61:5-6.

Here celestial people are called 'the priests of Jehovah', spiritual people 'the ministers of God', while those who made worship consist solely in external things are called 'sons of the foreigner' who were to serve in their fields and vineyards.

The sons of the foreigner will build up your walls, and their kings will minister to you. Isaiah 60:10.

Here similar reference is made to the service they were to render. In reference to the Gibeonites the following is said in Joshua,

You are cursed, and some of you will always be slaves, 1 both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God. Joshua made them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, especially for the altar of Jehovah. Joshua 9:23, 27.

It may be seen elsewhere whom the Gibeonites represented because of the covenant made with them, even though they belonged among those who were to be servants in the Church. Regarding foreigners, the law was laid down that if they would accept peace and open their gates they would become tributary and serve, 2 Deuteronomy 20:11; 1 Kings 9:21-22. Every single detail written down in the Word concerning the Jewish Church was representative of the Lord's kingdom. The Lord's kingdom is such that everyone, no matter who or what kind of person, must perform a use. In His kingdom the Lord looks to nothing else than use. Even those in hell have to perform a use, though the uses they do perform are the lowest of all. Among those performing inferior uses are people in the next life whose worship has been wholly external, separated from internal.

[3] Furthermore representatives in the Jewish Church were such that no attention was paid to the person who represented, but to that which was represented by him. The Jews, for example, who were anything but celestial people, nevertheless represented these, while Israel, anything but a spiritual man, nevertheless represented that man; and it was similar with Jacob and the rest. The same applied to kings and priests; they nevertheless represented the Kingship and Holiness of the Lord. This matter becomes clearer still from the fact that even inanimate objects were representative, such as Aaron's garments, the altar itself, the tables with the leaves on them, the lamps, bread and wine; as well as oxen, calves, goats, sheep, kids, lambs, doves, and pigeons. And because the sons of Judah and Israel did no more than represent the internal and the external worship of the Lord's Church, and yet more than anybody else made all worship consist merely in external things, it is therefore they, more than all others, who may be called 'Canaan' according to his meaning here.

1 Now this is the history of the generations of the sons of Noah and of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.

2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

5 Of these were the islands of the nations divided in their lands, everyone after his language, after their families, in their nations.

6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

8 Cush became the father of Nimrod. He began to be a mighty one in the earth.

9 He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before Yahweh."

10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11 Out of that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,

12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city).

13 Mizraim became the father of Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,

14 Pathrusim, Casluhim (which the Philistines descended from), and Caphtorim.

15 Canaan became the father of Sidon (his firstborn), Heth,

16 the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite,

17 the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite,

18 the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad.

19 The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, to Gaza; as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, to Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, in their nations.

21 To Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born.

22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

24 Arpachshad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.

25 To Eber were born two sons. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided. His brother's name was Joktan.

26 Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.

30 Their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.

31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, after their nations.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations. Of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
