¹ 耶和華的話臨到毗土珥的兒子約珥。

² 老年人哪，當聽我的話；國中的居民哪，都要側耳而聽。在你們的日子，或你們列祖的日子，曾有這樣的事麼？

³ 你們要將這事傳與子，子傳與孫，孫，傳與後代。

⁴ 剪蟲剩下的，蝗蟲來吃；蝗蟲剩下的，蝻子來吃；蝻子剩下的，螞蚱來吃。

⁵ 酒醉的人哪，要清醒哭泣；好酒的人哪，都要為甜酒哀號，因為從你們的口中斷絕了。

⁶ 有一隊蝗蟲（原文是民）又強盛又無數，侵犯我的地；他的牙齒如獅子的牙齒，大牙如母獅的大牙。

⁷ 他毀壞我的葡萄樹，剝了我無花果樹的皮，剝盡而丟棄，使枝條露白。

⁸ 我的民哪，你當哀號，像處女腰束麻布，為幼年的丈夫哀號。

⁹ 素祭和奠祭從耶和華的殿中斷絕；事奉耶和華的祭司都悲哀。

¹⁰ 田荒涼，地悲哀；因為五穀毀壞，新酒乾竭，油也缺乏。

¹¹ 農夫啊，你們要慚愧,修理葡萄園的啊，你們要哀號；因為大麥小麥與田間的莊稼都滅絕了。

¹² 葡萄樹枯乾；無花果樹衰殘。石榴樹、棕樹、蘋果樹，連田野一切的樹木也都枯乾；眾人的喜樂盡都消滅。

¹³ 祭司啊，你們當腰束麻布痛哭；伺候祭壇的啊，你們要哀號；事奉我神的啊，你們要來披上麻布過夜，因為素祭和奠祭從你們神的殿中斷絕了。

¹⁴ 你們要分定禁食的日子，宣告嚴肅會，招聚長老和國中的一切居民到耶和華─你們神的殿，向耶和華哀求。

¹⁵ 哀哉!耶和華的日子臨近了。這日來到，好像毀滅從全能者來到。

¹⁶ 糧食不是在我們眼前斷絕了嗎？歡喜快樂不是從我們神的殿中止息了嗎？

¹⁷ 穀種在土塊下朽爛；倉也荒涼，廩也破壞；因為五穀枯乾了。

¹⁸ 牲畜哀鳴；牛群混亂，因為無草；羊群也受了困苦。

¹⁹ 耶和華啊，我向你求告，因為火燒滅曠野的草場；火焰燒盡田野的樹木。

²⁰ 田野的走獸向你發喘；因為溪水乾涸，火也燒滅曠野的草場。

¹ Yahweh said to me, "Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man's pen, 'For Maher Shalal Hash Baz;'

² and I will take for myself faithful witnesses to testify: Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah."

³ I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. Then Yahweh said to me, "Call his name 'Maher Shalal Hash Baz.'

⁴ For before the child knows how to say, 'My father,' and, 'My mother,' the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away by the king of Assyria."

⁵ Yahweh spoke to me yet again, saying,

⁶ "Because this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

⁷ now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Assyria and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.

⁸ It will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, Immanuel.

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered!

¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: for God is with us."

¹¹ For Yahweh spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

¹² "Don't say, 'A conspiracy!' concerning all about which this people say, 'A conspiracy!' neither fear their threats, nor be terrorized.

¹³ Yahweh of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.

¹⁴ He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

¹⁵ Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured."

¹⁶ Wrap up the testimony. Seal the law among my disciples.

¹⁷ I will wait for Yahweh, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

¹⁸ Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Yahweh of Armies, who dwells in Mount Zion.

¹⁹ When they tell you, "Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter:" shouldn't a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

²⁰ Turn to the law and to the testimony! If they don't speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

²¹ They will pass through it, very distressed and hungry; and it will happen that when they are hungry, they will worry, and curse by their king and by their God. They will turn their faces upward,

²² and look to the earth, and see distress, darkness, and the gloom of anguish. They will be driven into thick darkness.
