2 Kings 20

Studie

1 In those days was· Hezekiah ·sick unto death. And Isaiah the son of Amoz, the prophet, came to him, and said to him, Thus says Jehovah, Command thy house, for thou shalt die and not live.

2 And he turned· his face ·around to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying,

3 I pray Thee, Jehovah, remember now, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done good in Thine eyes. And Hezekiah wept with great weeping.

4 And it was, when Isaiah had not gone··out into the middle of the court, that the word of Jehovah was unto him saying,

5 Return and say to Hezekiah, the monarch of My people, Thus says Jehovah, the God of David thy father. I have heard thy prayer. I have seen thy tear. Behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go··up to the house of Jehovah.

6 And I will add to thy days fifteen years; and from the palm of the hand of the king of Assyria I will rescue thee and this city; and I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of David My servant.

7 And Isaiah said, Take a clump of figs. And they took and set it upon the ulcer, and he lived.

8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me? and that I shall go··up on the third day unto the house of Jehovah?

9 And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign to thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the word that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten stairs or return ten stairs?

10 And Hezekiah said, It is· a ·light thing for the shadow to incline ten stairs, but not for the shadow to return backward ten stairs.

11 And Isaiah the prophet called to Jehovah; and He turned··back the shadow on the stairs, which had gone··down on the stairs of Ahaz, backward ten stairs*.

12 At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift··offering unto Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and showed them all the house of aromatic things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the good oil, and the house of his vessels, and all that was··found in his treasures; there was not a thing that Hezekiah did not show them, in his house, and in all that··he··ruled.

14 And Isaiah the prophet came unto King Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? And from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, From a land far··off are they come, from Babylon.

15 And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah said, All that is in my house have they seen; there is not a thing that I have not shown them in my treasures.

16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah.

17 Behold, the days are coming, and all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers treasured up to this day, shall be carried to Babylon; not a thing shall remain, says Jehovah.

18 And of thy sons who shall go··forth from thee, whom thou shalt beget, they shall take; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

19 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not so, if peace and truth shall be in my days?

20 And the remaining words concerning Hezekiah, and all his might, and that he made the pool, and the aqueduct, and brought the water to the city, are they not written in the book of the words concerning the days of the kings of Judah?

21 And Hezekiah lay··down with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in· his ·stead.
