1 Y llamó Jacob a sus hijos, y dijo: Juntaos, y os declararé lo que os ha de acontecer en los postreros días.

2 Juntaos y oíd, hijos de Jacob; y escuchad a vuestro padre Israel.

3 Rubén, tú eres mi primogénito, mi fortaleza, y el principio de mi vigor; principal en dignidad, principal en fortaleza.

4 Corriente como las aguas, no seas el principal; por cuanto subiste al lecho de tu padre; entonces te envileciste, subiendo a mi estrado.

5 Simeón y Leví, hermanos: armas de iniquidad sus armas.

6 En su secreto no entre mi alma, ni mi honra se junte en su compañía; que en su furor mataron varón, y en su voluntad arrancaron muro.

7 Maldito su furor, que es fuerte; y su ira, que es dura; yo los apartaré en Jacob, y los esparciré en Israel.

8 Judá, te alabarán tus hermanos: tu mano en la cerviz de tus enemigos; los hijos de tu padre se inclinarán a ti.

9 Cachorro de león Judá: de la presa subiste, hijo mío; se encorvó, se echó como león, Así como león viejo , ¿quién lo despertará?

10 No será quitado el cetro de Judá, y el legislador de entre sus pies, hasta que venga SILOH; y a él se congregarán los pueblos.

11 Atando a la vid su pollino, y a la cepa el hijo de su asna, lavó en el vino su vestido, y en la sangre de uvas su cobertura:

12 Los ojos bermejos del vino, los dientes blancos de la leche.

13 Zabulón a puertos de mar habitará, y a puerto de navíos; y su término será hasta Sidón.

14 Isacar, asno huesudo echado entre dos líos;

15 y vio que el descanso era bueno, y que la tierra era deleitosa; y bajó su hombro para llevar, y sirvió en tributo.

16 Dan juzgará a su pueblo, como una de las tribus de Israel.

17 Será Dan serpiente junto al camino, cerasta junto a la senda, que muerde los talones de los caballos, y hace caer por detrás al cabalgador de ellos.

18 Tu salud esperé, oh SEÑOR.

19 Gad, ejército lo acometerá; mas él acometerá al fin.

20 El pan de Aser será grueso, y él dará deleites al rey.

21 Neftalí, cierva dejada, que dará dichos hermosos.

22 Ramo fructífero José, ramo fructífero junto a una fuente, las doncellas van sobre el muro.

23 Y le causaron amargura, y asaetearon, y le aborrecieron los señores de saetas;

24 mas su arco quedó en fortaleza, y los brazos de sus manos se corroboraron por las manos del Fuerte de Jacob; de allí apacentó la piedra de Israel,

25 del Dios de tu padre, el cual te ayudará, y del Omnipotente, el cual te bendecirá con bendiciones de los cielos de arriba, con bendiciones del abismo que está abajo, con bendiciones de los pechos y del vientre.

26 Las bendiciones de tu padre fueron mayores que las bendiciones de mis progenitores: hasta el término de los collados eternos serán sobre la cabeza de José, y sobre la mollera del Nazareo de sus hermanos.

27 Benjamín, lobo arrebatador: a la mañana comerá la presa, y a la tarde repartirá los despojos.

28 Todos estos fueron las doce tribus de Israel: y esto fue lo que su padre les dijo, y los bendijo; a cada uno por su bendición los bendijo.

29 Les mandó luego , y les dijo: Yo soy congregado con mi pueblo; sepultadme con mis padres en la cueva que está en el campo de Efrón el heteo;

30 en la cueva que está en el campo de la dobladura, que está delante de Mamre en la tierra de Canaán, la cual compró Abraham con el mismo campo de Efrón el heteo, para heredad de sepultura.

31 Allí sepultaron a Abraham y a Sara su mujer; allí sepultaron a Isaac y a Rebeca su mujer; allí también sepulté yo a Lea.

32 La compra del campo y de la cueva que está en él, fue de los hijos de Het.

33 Y cuando acabó Jacob de dar mandamientos a sus hijos, encogió sus pies en la cama, y expiró; y fue congregado con sus padres.

162. (Verse 21) And I gave her time to repent of her whoredom; and she repented not. That this signifies that those who are in falsities neither turn themselves to truths, nor by truths, is evident from the signification of repenting of whoredom, as being to turn from falsities to truths; for whoredom signifies the falsification of truth; and to repent is to turn from such falsities, because repentance is an actual turning from falsities to truths, and dissociation and separation from the former (as may be seen above, n. 143). Also from the signification of her not repenting, as being that they do not turn themselves from falsities to truths. These things are said concerning Jezebel, but they are to be understood of those who, from the delight of the loves of self and of the world, have falsified truths and adulterated goods; for in the prophetical parts of the Word one person is named, and thereby are meant all those who are of such a quality.

[2] Something shall be said briefly concerning the circumstance that those who falsify truths in themselves by applying them to the delight of the love of self, do not afterwards turn themselves to truths. Man, from his Spiritual or Internal, and from his Intellectual, sees the truths which pertain to the church from the Word, but he receives them there only in proportion as he so loves them as to be willing to do them. When man thus wills to do them, his internal or spiritual man calls forth and elevates to itself from the natural man and its memory the truths which are therein, and conjoins them to the love of his will; thus the internal spiritual man is opened, where the interior or higher mind dwells, and is successively filled and perfected. But if he suffers the natural delight, which is the delight of the love of self and of the world, to predominate, he then sees all things from that delight, and, in this case, if he perceives truths, he applies them to his own love, and falsifies them. When this is the case, the internal spiritual man is closed, because it is accommodated to the reception of such things as pertain to heaven, and cannot endure truths to be falsified. Wherefore, when truths are falsified, it contracts and closes up, like a fibril when touched with a prickle or sting; and the internal being once closed, the love of self or the love of the world reigns, or both together, and they form the external or natural man altogether in opposition to the internal or spiritual man. This is why those who have falsified truths by applying them to the delights of the love of self and of the world cannot afterwards turn themselves to truths. This is what is meant by these words,

"I gave" to the woman Jezebel "time to repent of her whoredom, and she repented not."

4335. In the Word 'those who are grinding' means those within the Church who are led to know the truth by an affection for good, and in the contrary sense those within the Church who are led to know it by an affection for evil, as may be seen from the following places: In Isaiah,

Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babel; sit on the ground, without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans. Take a mill and grind flour; uncover your hair, bare your feet, uncover your thigh, pass through the rivers. Isaiah 47:1-2.

'The daughter of Babel' stands for those among whom externally things give the appearance of being holy and good but interiorly they are unholy and evil, 1182, 1326. 'The daughter of the Chaldeans' stands for those among whom externally things give the appearance of being holy and true, but interiorly they are unholy and false, 1368, 1816. 'Taking a mill and grinding flour' stands for producing teachings out of the truths which they pervert; for 'flour', being the product of wheat or of barley, means truths which are products of good, but in the contrary sense truths which they pervert so as to lead people astray. In Jeremiah,

I will banish from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of mills, and the light of the lamp. And this whole land will be a waste and desolation. Jeremiah 25:10-11.

[2] In John,

No craftsman of any craft will be found in Babylon any more; no sound of a mill will be heard in it any more; and the light of a lamp will not shine in it any more, and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will not be heard in it any more. Revelation 18:21-23.

'No sound of a mill will be heard in Babylon any more' means that there will not be any truth. 'The light of the lamp will not shine any more' means that neither will there be any understanding of truth. In Lamentations,

They have ravished women in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah. Princes have been hung up by their hands, the faces of the old men have not been honoured. The young men have been led away to grind at the mill, and the boys collapse under the wood. Lamentations 5:11-14.

'The young men have been led away to grind at the mill' stands for being led away to produce falsities by the use of truths, and so by the power of persuasion.

[3] In Moses,

Ah the firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from Pharaoh's firstborn seated upon his throne, even to the servant-girl's firstborn who is behind the mill. Exodus 11:5.

'The firstborn of Egypt' stands for truths of faith which have been separated from the good of charity and therefore become falsities, 3325.

'The servant-girl's firstborn who is behind the mill' stands for the affection for such truth from which falsities are obtained. These were the things represented by such historical events.

[4] In the same author,

He shall not take as a pledge the mill or the milling stone, for they are the livelihood 1 of him who pledges them. Deuteronomy 24:6.

This law was laid down because 'the mill' meant matters of doctrine and 'the milling stone' the truths that were an integral part of them and are called 'the livelihood of him who pledges them'. But for the spiritual meaning which 'mill' and 'milling stone' possess that law would obviously not have been given; nor would it have been said that they were 'his livelihood'.

[5] I have been shown that 'grinding' derives its spiritual meaning from the representatives which manifest themselves in the world of spirits. For I have seen people there who seemed to be grinding; these spirits, I have been told, mean those who gather large numbers of truths together not with any use in view, other than for the sake of their own pleasure. Because truths in that case are devoid of their own affection which originates in good, they do indeed look like truths to external appearance; but because there is no inner substance to them they are sheer fancies. But if evil is present within them truths are used to support that evil, and so are made falsities through that use of them.
