¹ അനന്തരം മനുഷ്യന്‍ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹവ്വയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള്‍ ഗര്‍ഭംധരിച്ചു കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുയഹോവയാല്‍ എനിക്കു ഒരു പുരുഷപ്രജ ലഭിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

² പിന്നെ അവള്‍ അവന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. ഹാബെല്‍ ആട്ടിടയനും കയീന്‍ കൃഷിക്കാരനും ആയിത്തീര്‍ന്നു.

³ കുറെക്കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കയീന്‍ നിലത്തെ അനുഭവത്തില്‍നിന്നു യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു വഴിപാടു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

⁴ ഹാബെലും ആട്ടിന്‍ കൂട്ടത്തിലെ കടിഞ്ഞൂലുകളില്‍നിന്നു, അവയുടെ മേദസ്സില്‍നിന്നു തന്നേ, ഒരു വഴിപാടു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. യഹോവ ഹാബെലിലും വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചു.

⁵ കയീനിലും അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചില്ല. കയീന്നു ഏറ്റവും കോപമുണ്ടായി, അവന്റെ മുഖം വാടി.

⁶ എന്നാറെ യഹോവ കയീനോടുനീ കോപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? നിന്റെ മുഖം വാടുന്നതും എന്തു?

⁷ നീ നന്മചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ പ്രസാദമുണ്ടാകയില്ലയോ? നീ നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലോ പാപം വാതില്‍ക്കല്‍ കിടക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം നിങ്കലേക്കു ആകുന്നു; നീയോ അതിനെ കീഴടക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

⁸ എന്നാറെ കയീന്‍ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു(നാം വയലിലേക്കു പോക എന്നു) പറഞ്ഞു. അവര്‍ വയലില്‍ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ കയീന്‍ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു കയര്‍ത്തു അവനെ കൊന്നു.

⁹ പിന്നെ യഹോവ കയീനോടുനിന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെല്‍ എവിടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ അനുജന്റെ കാവല്‍ക്കാരനോ എന്നു അവന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁰ അതിന്നു അവന്‍ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു. നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു? നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദം ഭൂമിയില്‍ നിന്നു എന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു.

¹¹ ഇപ്പോള്‍ നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തം നിന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ നിന്നു ഏറ്റുകൊള്‍വാന്‍ വായിതുറന്ന ദേശം നീ വിട്ടു ശാപഗ്രസ്തനായി പോകേണം.

¹² നീ കൃഷി ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ നിലം ഇനിമേലാല്‍ തന്റെ വീര്യം നിനക്കു തരികയില്ല; നീ ഭൂമിയില്‍ ഉഴന്നലയുന്നവന്‍ ആകും.

¹³ കയീന്‍ യഹോവയോടുഎന്റെ കുറ്റം പൊറുപ്പാന്‍ കഴിയുന്നതിനെക്കാള്‍ വലിയതാകുന്നു.

¹⁴ ഇതാ, നീ ഇന്നു എന്നെ ആട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; ഞാന്‍ തിരുസന്നിധിവിട്ടു ഒളിച്ചു ഭൂമിയില്‍ ഉഴന്നലയുന്നവന്‍ ആകും; ആരെങ്കിലും എന്നെ കണ്ടാല്‍, എന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁵ യഹോവ അവനോടുഅതുകൊണ്ടു ആരെങ്കിലും കയീനെ കൊന്നാല്‍ അവന്നു ഏഴിരട്ടി പകരം കിട്ടും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു; കയീനെ കാണുന്നവര്‍ ആരും കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ അവന്നു ഒരു അടയാളം വെച്ചു.

¹⁶ അങ്ങനെ കയീന്‍ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഏദെന്നു കിഴക്കു നോദ് ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു പാര്‍ത്തു.

¹⁷ കയീന്‍ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള്‍ ഗര്‍ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഹാനോക്കിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. അവന്‍ ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു, ഹാനോക്‍ എന്നു തന്റെ മകന്റെ പേരിട്ടു.

¹⁸ ഹാനോക്കിന്നു ഈരാദ് ജനിച്ചു; ഈരാദ് മെഹൂയയേലിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; മെഹൂയയേല്‍ മെഥൂശയേലിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; മെഥൂശയേല്‍ ലാമെക്കിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

¹⁹ ലാമെക്‍ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെ എടുത്തു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ആദാ എന്നും മറ്റവള്‍ക്കു സില്ലാ എന്നും പേര്‍.

²⁰ ആദാ യാബാലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന്‍ കൂടാരവാസികള്‍ക്കും പശുപാലകന്മാര്‍ക്കും പിതാവായ്തീര്‍ന്നു.

²¹ അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു യൂബാല്‍ എന്നു പേര്‍. ഇവന്‍ കിന്നരവും വേണുവും പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും പിതാവായ്തീര്‍ന്നു.

²² സില്ലാ തൂബല്‍കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന്‍ ചെമ്പുകൊണ്ടും ഇരിമ്പുകൊണ്ടുമുള്ള ആയുധങ്ങളെ തീര്‍ക്കുംന്നവനായ്തീര്‍ന്നു; തൂബല്‍കയീന്റെ പെങ്ങള്‍ നയമാ.

²³ ലാമെക്‍ തന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആദയും സില്ലയും ആയുള്ളോരേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്‍പ്പിന്‍ ; ലാമെക്കിന്‍ ഭാര്യമാരേ, എന്റെ വചനത്തിന്നു ചെവി തരുവിന്‍ ! എന്റെ മുറിവിന്നു പകരം ഞാന്‍ ഒരു പുരുഷനെയും, എന്റെ പരിക്കിന്നു പകരം ഒരു യുവാവിനെയും കൊല്ലും.

²⁴ കയീന്നുവേണ്ടി ഏഴിരട്ടി പകരം ചെയ്യുമെങ്കില്‍, ലാമെക്കിന്നുവേണ്ടി എഴുപത്തേഴു ഇരട്ടി പകരം ചെയ്യും.

²⁵ ആദാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പിന്നെയും പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള്‍ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുകയീന്‍ കൊന്ന ഹാബെലിന്നു പകരം ദൈവം എനിക്കു മറ്റൊരു സന്തതിയെ തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശേത്ത് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

²⁶ ശേത്തിന്നും ഒരു മകന്‍ ജനിച്ചു; അവന്നു എനോശ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. ആ കാലത്തു യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിലുള്ള ആരാധന തുടങ്ങി.

¹ "I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.

² Every branch in me that doesn't bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

³ You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

⁴ Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can't bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

⁵ I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

⁶ If a man doesn't remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

⁷ If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.

⁸ "In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.

⁹ Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love.

¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in his love.

¹¹ I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.

¹² "This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.

¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

¹⁴ You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.

¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn't know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

¹⁶ You didn't choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

¹⁷ "I command these things to you, that you may love one another.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his lord.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

²¹ But all these things will they do to you for my name's sake, because they don't know him who sent me.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

²³ He who hates me, hates my Father also.

²⁴ If I hadn't done among them the works which no one else did, they wouldn't have had sin. But now have they seen and also hated both me and my Father.

²⁵ But this happened so that the word may be fulfilled which was written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'

²⁶ "When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.

²⁷ You will also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
