1 "Kun te arvotte maata perintöosiksi, niin antakaa Herralle anti, pyhä osa maasta, kahtakymmentäviittä tuhatta pitkä ja kahtakymmentä tuhatta leveä. Se olkoon pyhä koko alueeltaan, yltympäri.

2 Siitä tulkoon pyhäkölle neliö, viisisataa ja viisisataa joka taholta, ja sen lisäksi avointa tilaa viisikymmentä joka taholta.

3 Ja mittaa tästä mitatusta alueesta kahtakymmentäviittä tuhatta pitkälti ja kymmentätuhatta leveälti, ja siinä olkoon pyhäkkö, korkeasti-pyhä.

4 Se olkoon pyhä osa maasta papeille, jotka palvelevat pyhäkössä, jotka lähestyvät ja palvelevat Herraa; se olkoon talojen sijana heitä varten ja pyhänä paikkana pyhäkköä varten.

5 Kahtakymmentäviittä tuhatta pitkälti ja kymmentätuhatta leveälti on tuleva leeviläisille, jotka toimittavat palvelusta pyhäkössä, heille perintömaaksi-kaksikymmentä kammiota-.

9 Näin sanoo Herra, Herra: Jo riittää, te Israelin ruhtinaat! Heittäkää pois väkivalta ja sorto, noudattakaa oikeutta ja vanhurskautta, heretkää häätämästä mailtansa minun kansaani, sanoo Herra, Herra.

10 Olkoon teillä oikea paino, oikea eefa-mitta ja oikea bat-mitta.

11 Eefa-ja bat-mitta olkoot tarkoin yhtä suuret: bat vetäköön kymmenenneksen hoomer-mittaa ja eefa kymmenenneksen hoomer-mittaa; hoomerin mukaan määrättäköön kumpaisenkin suuruus.

12 Sekelissä olkoon kaksikymmentä geeraa; miina olkoon teillä kaksikymmentä sekeliä, kaksikymmentäviisi sekeliä, viisitoista sekeliä.

13 Tämä on anti, joka teidän on annettava: kuudennes eefaa nisuhoomerista ja kuudennes eefaa ohrahoomerista;

14 ljyn määrä bat-mitasta öljyä: kymmenennes batia koor-mitasta-kymmenestä batista, hoomerista-sillä hoomer on kymmenen batia;

15 pikkukarjasta: kahdestasadasta yksi lammas Israelin runsasvetisiltä laitumilta ruokauhriksi, polttouhriksi ja yhteysuhriksi, että voitaisiin toimittaa heille sovitus, sanoo Herra, Herra.

16 Kaikki maan kansa on velvoitettu tähän antiin Israelin ruhtinaalle.

17 Mutta ruhtinas toimittakoon polttouhrit, ruokauhrin ja juomauhrin juhlina, uusinakuina ja sapatteina, kaikkina Israelin heimon juhla-aikoina; hän uhratkoon syntiuhrin, ruokauhrin, polttouhrin ja yhteysuhrin toimittaakseen sovituksen Israelin heimolle.

18 Näin sanoo Herra, Herra: Ota ensimmäisessä kuussa, kuukauden ensimmäisenä päivänä virheetön mullikka ja puhdista pyhäkkö.

19 Ja pappi ottakoon syntiuhrin verta ja sivelköön sitä temppelin ovenpieliin ja alttarin välireunan neljään kulmaan ja sisemmän esipihan portin ovenpieliin.

20 Samoin tee kuukauden seitsemäntenä päivänä sen varalta, että joku olisi erehdyksestä tai tietämättömyydestä rikkonut. Ja niin te toimitatte temppelin sovituksen.

21 Ensimmäisessä kuussa, kuukauden neljäntenätoista päivänä, on teillä pääsiäinen. Se on seitsenpäiväinen juhla. Syötäköön silloin happamatonta leipää.

22 Sinä päivänä uhratkoon ruhtinas omasta puolestansa ja maan kaiken kansan puolesta mullikan syntiuhriksi.

23 Ja seitsemänä juhlapäivänä hän uhratkoon polttouhriksi Herralle seitsemän mullikkaa ja seitsemän oinasta, virheettömiä, joka päivä seitsemänä päivänä, ja syntiuhriksi kauriin joka päivä.

24 Ja ruokauhriksi hän uhratkoon eefa-mitan mullikkaa ja eefa-mitan oinasta kohti sekä öljyä hiin-mitan eefaa kohti.

25 Seitsemännessä kuussa, kuukauden viidentenätoista päivänä, juhlana, hän uhratkoon samalla tavoin-niin seitsemänä päivänä-samankaltaisen syntiuhrin, polttouhrin ja ruokauhrin sekä saman määrän öljyä."

10253. 'Five hundred [shekels]' means what is complete. This is clear from the meaning of the number 'five hundred' as what is complete. The reason why 'five hundred' has this meaning is that this number is the product of five multiplied by ten tens, or fives times a hundred; and 'five' means much, as do 'ten' and 'a hundred', and therefore 'five hundred' means what is complete.

'Five' means much, see 5708, 5956, 9102, as likewise does 'ten', 3107, 4638, and also 'a hundred', 4400, 6582, 6594.

All numbers in the Word mean spiritual realities, see in the places referred to in 9488.

Compound numbers have a similar meaning to the simple ones that give rise to them through multiplication, 5291, 5335, 5708, 7973.

[2] The fact that numbers mean spiritual realities is perfectly clear in Ezekiel, where the house of God, together with everything there inside and outside, and also the new earth or land, are measured and are described by numbers pertaining to measure, in Chapters 40-48. By the new land there the Church should be understood, and by the house of God its holiness. The same is so in John, in the Book of Revelation, where also a new Jerusalem is described by the numbers where measurements are given, by which too a new Church should be understood. Unless the numbers had meant spiritual realities all those measurements would have been pointless.

[3] 'Five hundred' means the whole from one end to the other, thus what is complete. This is clear from those chapters in Ezekiel,

He measured outside the house (or the temple), to the east quarter five hundred rods round about, to the north quarter five hundred rods round about, to the south quarter five hundred rods, and to the west quarter 1 five hundred rods. Its wall round about, the length was five hundred rods, and the breadth five hundred rods, to distinguish between the holy and the profane. Ezekiel 42:15-20.

From these words it is evident that 'five hundred' means the whole in its entirety, or everything holy from one end to the other, thus what is complete; for it says that the wall, which - according to this account of its length and breadth - formed a square, served to distinguish the holy from the profane.

[4] 'Five hundred' also means much, while a tenth of that number or fifty means some. This is clear from the Lord's words addressed to Simon, in Luke,

Jesus said, There were two debtors who had a certain creditor. One owed five hundred denarii, but the other fifty. When they did not have [anything with which] to repay, he forgave them both. Which of the two loves him more? Simon answered, The one to whom he forgave more. Jesus said, So have the many sins of the woman been forgiven, because she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, [that person] loves little. Luke 7:41-end.

The reason why the Lord used those numbers was that they meant much and some; for He spoke from a Divine [perspective], thus used words carrying a spiritual meaning, in accord with correspondences. The same is so everywhere else, as when He spoke about the virgins, of whom - He said - there were ten, and that five were wise and five were foolish. He spoke of ten because that number means all, that is to say, all who belong to the Church, and of five because this number means some, see 4637, 4638.

2636. 'Abraham was a son a hundred years old' means a complete state of union. This is clear from the meaning of 'a hundred' as that which is complete, dealt with immediately below, and from the meaning of 'years' as state, dealt with in 482, 487, 488, 493, 893, here a state of union. What a complete state is of the Lord's Divine united to His Human, or what amounts to the same, united to the Rational - for the human has its beginnings in the inmost part of the rational, 2106, 2194 - is not easy to express in a way that can be understood, though it can nevertheless be illustrated by the things which with man are called a complete state when he is being reformed and regenerated.

[2] It is well known that a person cannot be regenerated except in adult years, for not until then is he able to exercise reason and judgement and in so doing to receive good and truth from the Lord. Before entering that state he is being prepared by the Lord through the implantation of such things as can serve him as the soil for receiving the seeds of truth and good. Implanted thus are many states of innocence and charity, also cognitions of good and truth, and consequently thoughts. This implantation occurs during many years before his regeneration takes place. When a person has been endowed with these things and so has been prepared, his state is now said to be complete, for the things that are interior have been arranged ready to receive. All those things with a person which the Lord grants him prior to regeneration and by means of which he is regenerated are called remnants, which in the Word are meant by the number ten, 576, 1738, 2284, and also by a hundred when the state for regeneration is complete, 1988.

[3] These things that are so with man may serve to illustrate what is meant by a complete state of the Human united to the Divine in the Lord. That is to say, they may illustrate the state when the Lord by His own power - through the conflicts brought about by temptations and through victories, and through the powers of Divine wisdom and intelligence - gathered to Himself within the Human, that is, within the Rational, so much of the Divine that He was able to unite the Divine itself to the Divine acquired within the Rational. And it was to represent this state that, even though Abraham had spent many years in the land of Canaan, Isaac was not born to him until he was a hundred years old. These are the arcana contained within the number 'a hundred years', which was Abraham's age.

[4] That the number 'a hundred' means that which is complete may also be seen from other places in the Word, as in Isaiah,

No more will there be from it an infant of days, nor an old man who has not completed his days, for the child will die a son a hundred years old, and the sinner a son a hundred years old will be accursed. Isaiah 65:20.

Here 'a hundred' clearly stands for that which is complete, for it is said, 'No more will there be an infant of days, nor an old man who has not completed his days', and, a child and a sinner will be 'a hundred years old', that is, a time when his state is complete.

[5] In Matthew,

Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields, for My name's sake, will receive a hundredfold and will be allotted the inheritance of eternal life. Matthew 19:29; Mark 10:29-30.

Here 'a hundredfold' stands for that which is complete, otherwise described as 'good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over', in Luke 6:38.

[6] In Luke,

Some seed fell on good ground, and when it had grown up it brought forth fruit a hundredfold. Luke 8:8; Matthew 13:8, 23; Mark 4:20.

Here also 'a hundred' stands for that which is complete, a number which would not have been mentioned unless it had had that meaning. A similar meaning exists in the parable about the debtors, where the Lord says that one owed a hundred baths of oil and the other a hundred cors of wheat, Luke 16:5-7. The same applies in other places where a hundred is mentioned. It is similar with a thousand, regarding which number, see 2575.
