5507. 'To the land of Canaan' means which is that of the Church. This is clear from the meaning of 'the land of Canaan' as the Church, dealt with in 3705, 4447. This good of truth represented by 'Jacob' is the good of the external Church, whereas in relation to this what is represented by 'Israel' is the good of the internal Church.

The woman condemned to 'bring forth sons in sorrow' denotes the anxieties and combats in the production of truths.
