1 Sed la Izraelidoj pekis kontraux la anatemo:Ahxan, filo de Karmi, filo de Zabdi, filo de Zerahx, el la tribo de Jehuda, prenis el la anatemitajxo, kaj la kolero de la Eternulo ekflamis kontraux la Izraelidoj.

2 Kaj Josuo sendis virojn el Jerihxo al Aj, kiu estis apud Bet-Aven, oriente de Bet-El, kaj li diris al ili jene:Iru kaj esplorrigardu la landon. Kaj la viroj iris kaj esplorrigardis Ajon.

3 Kaj ili revenis al Josuo, kaj diris al li:Ne iru la tuta popolo, nur du mil aux tri mil viroj iru kaj venkobatu Ajon; ne lacigu tien la tutan popolon, cxar ili estas malgrandnombraj.

4 Kaj iris tien el la popolo cxirkaux tri mil viroj; sed ili forkuris de antaux la logxantoj de Aj.

5 Kaj la logxantoj de Aj mortigis el ili tridek ses homojn, kaj persekutis ilin de la pordego gxis SXebarim, kaj venkobatis ilin sur la deklivo de la monto; kaj malkuragxigxis la koro de la popolo kaj farigxis kiel akvo.

6 Tiam Josuo dissxiris siajn vestojn, kaj jxetis sin vizagxaltere antaux la keston de la Eternulo, restante tiel gxis la vespero, li kaj la plejagxuloj de Izrael; kaj ili sxutis polvon sur siajn kapojn.

7 Kaj Josuo diris:Ho, mia Sinjoro, Eternulo, kial Vi transirigis cxi tiun popolon trans Jordanon, por transdoni nin en la manon de la Amoridoj, por pereigi nin? ho, kial ni ne restis sur tiu flanko de Jordan?

8 Ho, mia Sinjoro! kion mi povas diri, post kiam Izrael turnis sian dorson al siaj malamikoj?

9 Kiam auxdos la Kanaanidoj kaj cxiuj logxantoj de la lando, ili cxirkauxos nin kaj ekstermos nian nomon de sur la tero; kaj kion Vi faros por Via granda nomo?

10 Tiam la Eternulo diris al Josuo:Levigxu! por kio vi jxetis vin vizagxaltere?

11 Izrael pekis, kaj ili agis kontraux Mia interligo, kiun Mi donis al ili, kaj ili prenis el la anatemitajxo, kaj sxtelis, kaj mensoge neis, kaj metis inter siajn vazojn.

12 Tial la Izraelidoj ne povos rezisti antaux siaj malamikoj, sian dorson ili turnos al siaj malamikoj, cxar ili falis sub anatemon; Mi ne estos plu kun vi, se vi ne malaperigos la anatemitajxon el inter vi.

13 Levigxu, sanktigu la popolon, kaj diru:Sanktigu vin por morgaux; cxar tiel diris la Eternulo, Dio de Izrael:Anatemitajxo estas inter vi, Izrael; vi ne povos rezisti antaux viaj malamikoj, gxis vi forigos la anatemitajxon el inter vi.

14 Kaj vi aliros matene laux viaj triboj; kaj la tribo, kiun montros la Eternulo, aliros laux la familioj; kaj la familio, kiun montros la Eternulo, aliros laux la domoj; kaj la domo, kiun montros la Eternulo, aliros laux apartaj homoj.

15 Kaj tiun, cxe kiu montrigxos la anatemitajxo, oni forbruligu per fajro, lin kaj cxion, kio apartenas al li; cxar li agis kontraux la interligo de la Eternulo, kaj cxar li faris malnoblajxon en Izrael.

16 Kaj Josuo levigxis frue matene, kaj alirigis Izraelon laux liaj triboj; kaj la montro falis sur la tribon de Jehuda.

17 Kaj li alirigis la tribon de Jehuda, kaj la montro falis sur la familion de la Zerahxidoj; kaj li alirigis la familion de la Zerahxidoj laux apartaj homoj, kaj la montro falis sur Zabdin.

18 Kaj li alirigis lian domon laux apartaj homoj, kaj la montro falis sur Ahxanon, filon de Karmi, filo de Zabdi, filo de Zerahx, el la tribo de Jehuda.

19 Tiam Josuo diris al Ahxan:Mia filo! donu gloron al la Eternulo, Dio de Izrael, kaj faru al Li konfeson, kaj diru al mi, kion vi faris; ne kasxu antaux mi.

20 Kaj Ahxan respondis al Josuo, kaj diris:Efektive, mi pekis antaux la Eternulo, Dio de Izrael, kaj tiel kaj tiel mi faris.

21 Mi vidis inter la militakirajxo belan SXinaran mantelon, kaj ducent siklojn da argxento, kaj unu stangeton da oro, havantan la pezon de kvindek sikloj, kaj mi ekdeziris ilin kaj prenis ilin; kaj nun ili estas kasxitaj en la tero meze de mia tendo, kaj la argxento estas sub tio.

22 Kaj Josuo sendis senditojn, kaj ili kuris en la tendon; kaj montrigxis, ke tio estas kasxita en lia tendo kaj la argxento estas sub tio.

23 Kaj ili prenis tion el meze de la tendo, kaj alportis al Josuo kaj al cxiuj Izraelidoj, kaj elmetis tion antaux la Eternulo.

24 Kaj Josuo kune kun la tuta Izrael prenis Ahxanon, filon de Zerahx, kaj la argxenton kaj la mantelon kaj la stangeton da oro, kaj liajn filojn kaj liajn filinojn, kaj liajn bovojn kaj liajn azenojn kaj liajn sxafojn, kaj lian tendon, kaj cxion, kio apartenis al li, kaj elkondukis ilin en la valon Ahxor.

25 Kaj Josuo diris:Pro tio, ke vi malgxojigis nin, la Eternulo malgxojigos vin en cxi tiu tago. Kaj la tuta Izrael mortigis lin per sxtonoj; kaj oni forbruligis ilin per fajro, kaj jxetis sur ilin sxtonojn.

26 Kaj oni amasigis super li grandan amason da sxtonoj, kiu restis gxis hodiaux. Kaj malaperis la flama kolero de la Eternulo. Pro tio tiu loko havas la nomon valo Ahxor gxis hodiaux.

728. That “in yet seven days” here signifies the beginning of temptation, is evident from the internal sense of all things mentioned in this verse, in that the temptation of the man called “Noah” is treated of. It treats in general both of his temptation and of the total vastation of those who were of the Most Ancient Church and had become such as has been described. Therefore “in yet seven days” signifies not only the beginning of temptation, but also the end of vastation. The reason why these things are signified by “in yet seven days” is that “seven” is a holy number, as was said and shown before in Genesis 7:2 and in Genesis 4:15-24; and at n. 84-87. “In seven days” signifies the Lord’s coming into the world, also His coming into glory, and every coming of the Lord in particular. It is an attendant feature of every coming of the Lord that it is a beginning to those who are being regenerated, and is the end of those who are being vastated. Thus to the man of this church the Lord’s coming was the beginning of temptation; for when man is tempted he begins to become a new man and to be regenerated. And at the same time it was the end of those of the Most Ancient Church who had become such that they could not but perish. Just so when the Lord came into the world-the church at that time was in its last state of vastation, and was then made new.

[2] That these things are signified by “in yet seven days” is evident in Daniel:

Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people, and upon the city of thy holiness, to consummate the transgression, to seal up sins, and to purge away iniquity, and to bring in the righteousness of the ages, and to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the holy of holies. Know therefore and perceive, from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks (Daniel 9:24-25).

Here “seventy weeks” and “seven weeks” signify the same as “seven days” namely, the coming of the Lord. But as here there is a manifest prophecy, the times are still more sacredly and certainly designated by septenary numbers. It is evident then not only that “seven” thus applied to times signifies the coming of the Lord, but that the beginning also of a new church at that time is signified by the “anointing of the holy of holies” and by Jerusalem being “restored and built.” And at the same time the last vastation is signified by the words, “Seventy weeks are decreed upon the city of holiness, to consummate the transgression, and to seal up sins.”

[3] So in other places in the Word, as in Ezekiel, where he says of himself:

I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that sat by the river Chebar, and I sat there astonished among them seven days; and it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of Jehovah came unto me (Ezekiel 3:15-16).

Here also “seven days” denote the beginning of visitation; for after seven days, while he sat among those who were in captivity, the word of Jehovah came unto him. Again:

They shall bury Gog, that they may cleanse the land, seven months; at the end of seven months they shall search (Ezekiel 39:12, 14).

Here likewise “seven” denotes the last limit of vastation, and the first of visitation.

In Daniel:

The heart of Nebuchadnezzar shall they change from man, and the heart of a beast shall be given unto him, and seven times shall pass over him (Daniel 4:16, 25, 32),

denoting in like manner the end of vastation, and the beginning of a new man.

[4] The “seventy years” of Babylonish captivity represented the same. Whether the number is “seventy” or “seven” it involves the same, be it seven days or seven years, or seven ages which make seventy years. Vastation was represented by the years of captivity; the beginning of a new church by the liberation and the rebuilding of the temple. Similar things were also represented by the service of Jacob with Laban, where these words occur:

I will serve thee seven years for Rachel; and Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and Laban said, Fulfill this week, and I will give thee her also, for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years; and Jacob did so, and fulfilled this week (Genesis 29:18, 20, 27-28).

Here the “seven years” of service involve the same, and also that after the days of seven years came the marriage and freedom. This period of seven years was called a “week” as also in Daniel.

[5] The same was represented too in the command that they should compass the city of Jericho “seven times” and the wall would then fall down; and it is said that:

On the seventh day they rose with the dawn and compassed the city after the same manner seven times, and it came to pass at the seventh time the seven priests blew the seven trumpets and the wall fell down (Joshua 6:10-20).If these things had not likewise had such a signification, the command that they should compass the city seven times, and that there should be seven priests and seven trumpets would never have been given. From these and many other passages (as Job 2:13; Revelation 15:1, 6-7; 21:9), it is evident that “in seven days” signifies the beginning of a new church, and the end of the old. In the passage before us, as it treats both of the man of the church called “Noah” and his temptation, and of the last posterity of the Most Ancient Church, which destroyed itself, “in yet seven days” can have no other signification than the beginning of Noah’s temptation and the end or final devastation and expiration of the Most Ancient Church.

1 Yahweh said to Noah, "Come with all of your household into the ship, for I have seen your righteousness before me in this generation.

2 You shall take seven pairs of every clean animal with you, the male and his female. Of the animals that are not clean, take two, the male and his female.

3 Also of the birds of the sky, seven and seven, male and female, to keep seed alive on the surface of all the earth.

4 In seven days, I will cause it to rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights. Every living thing that I have made, I will destroy from the surface of the ground."

5 Noah did everything that Yahweh commanded him.

6 Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came on the earth.

7 Noah went into the ship with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives, because of the waters of the flood.

8 Clean animals, animals that are not Clean, birds, and everything that creeps on the ground

9 went by pairs to Noah into the ship, male and female, as God commanded Noah.

10 It happened after the seven days, that the waters of the flood came on the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep were burst open, and the sky's windows were opened.

12 The rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13 In the same day Noah, and Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, entered into the ship;

14 they, and every animal after its kind, all the livestock after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort.

15 They went to Noah into the ship, by pairs of all flesh with the breath of life in them.

16 Those who went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God commanded him; and Yahweh shut him in.

17 The flood was forty days on the earth. The waters increased, and lifted up the ship, and it was lifted up above the earth.

18 The waters prevailed, and increased greatly on the earth; and the ship floated on the surface of the waters.

19 The waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth. All the high mountains that were under the whole sky were covered.

20 The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.

21 All flesh died that moved on the earth, including birds, livestock, animals, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man.

22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, of all that was on the dry land, died.

23 Every living thing was destroyed that was on the surface of the ground, including man, livestock, creeping things, and birds of the sky. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ship.

24 The waters prevailed on the earth one hundred fifty days.
