Kings 15

Studie

And the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, Abijam became··king over Judah.

Three years he reigned in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.

And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; and his heart was not wholly with Jehovah his God, as was the heart of David his father.

But for David’s sake did Jehovah his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to raise··up his son after him, and to cause Jerusalem to stand.

Because David did that which was upright in the eyes of Jehovah, and turned· not ·aside from all that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

And the remaining words concerning Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words concerning the days of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

And Abijam lay··down with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in· his ·stead.

And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel Asa became··king over Judah.

And forty and one years he reigned in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.

And Asa did that which was upright in the eyes of Jehovah, as did David his father.

And he caused to pass away the sodomites from the land, and removed all the idols that his father had made.

And also Maachah his mother, he removed her from being the great··lady, in that she had made a horrible image for a grove; and Asa cut··off her horrible image and burnt· it ·up at the brook Kidron.

But the high··places they did not remove; yet the heart of Asa was wholly with Jehovah all his days.

And he brought··in the sanctified things of his father, and the sanctified things of the house of Jehovah, silver and gold and vessels.

And there was war between Asa and Baasha, king of Israel, all the days.

And Baasha king of Israel went··up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go··out or come··in to Asa king of Judah.

And Asa took all the silver and the gold that remained in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, and gave them into the hand of his servants; and King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion king of Syria, that dwelt in Damascus, saying,

There is a covenant between me and thee, between my father and thy father; behold I have sent to thee a bribe of silver and gold; Go, make· thy covenant with Baasha king of Israel ·of··none··effect, that he may Go··up from me.

And Ben-hadad hearkened unto King Asa, and sent the commanders of the armies, which he had, against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon and Dan, and Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinnereth, with all the land of Naphtali.

And it was, when Baasha heard it, that he stopped building Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.

And King Asa caused it to be heard in all Judah; none was exempt; and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the wood with which Baasha had built; and King Asa built therewith Gibea of Benjamin and Mizpah.

And all the remaining words concerning Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the words concerning the days of the kings of Judah? Only for the time of his old··age he was··sick in his feet.

And Asa lay··down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in· his ·stead.

And Nadab the son of Jeroboam became··king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah; and he reigned over Israel two years.

And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father and in his sin which he made Israel to sin.

And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him in Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; and Nadab and all Israel were besieging Gibbethon.

And Baasha put· him ·to··death in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and became··king in· his ·stead.

And it was, when he became··king, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any who had breath until he had blotted· him ·out; according··to the word of Jehovah which he spoke by the hand of His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,

on··account··of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked Jehovah the God of Israel.

And the remaining words concerning Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words concerning the days of the kings of Israel?

And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became··king over all Israel in Tirzah for twenty and four years.

And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin, which he made Israel to sin.
