Exodus 40

1 Og HE EN talede til Moses og sagde:

2 På den første Dag i den første Måned skal du rejse Åbenbaringsteltets Bolig.

3 Sæt så Vidnesbyrdets Ark derind og hæng Forhænget op for Arken.

4 Og du skal bringe Bordet ind og ordne, hvad dertil hører, og bringe Lysestagen ind og sætte Lamperne på.

5 Stil Guldalteret til øgelsen op foran Vidnesbyrdets Ark og hæng Forhænget op foran Boligens Indgang.

6 Stil Brændofferalteret op foran Indgangen til Åbenbaringsteltets Bolig

7 og stil Vandkummen op mellem Åbenbaringsteltet og Alteret og hæld Vand deri.

8 ejs Forgården rundt om og hæng Forhænget op foran Forgårdens Indgang.

9 Tag Salveolien og salv Boligen og alle Ting deli, og du skal hellige den med alt dens Tilbehør, så den bliver hellig.

10 Du skal salve Brændofferalteret og alt dets Tilbehør og hellige Alteret, så det bliver højhelligt.

11 Og du skal salve Vandkummen og Fodstykket og hellige den.

12 Lad så Aron og hans Sønner træde hen til Åbenbaringsteltets Indgang, tvæt dem med Vand

13 og ifør Aron de hellige Klæder. salv og hellig ham til at gøre Præstetjeneste for mig.

14 Lad så hans Sønner træde frem, ifør dem Kjortler

15 og salv dem, som du salver deres Fader, til at gøre Præstetjeneste for mig. Således skal det ske, for at et evigt Præstedømme kan blive dem til Del fra Slægt til Slægt i Kraft af denne Salvning, som du foretager på dem.

16 Og Moses gjorde ganske som HE EN havde pålagt ham; således gjorde han.

17 På den første Dag i den første Måned i det andet År blev Boligen rejst.

18 Moses rejste Boligen, idet han anbragte Fodstykkerne, rejste Brædderne, stak Tværstængerne ind, rejste Pillerne,

19 spændte Teltdækket ud over Boligen og lagde Teltdækkets Dække ovenover, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

20 Derpå tog han Vidnesbyrdet og lagde det i Arken, stak Bærestængerne i Arken og lagde Sonedækket oven på den;

21 så bragte han Arken ind i Boligen og hængte det indre Forhæng op og tilhyllede således Vidnesbyrdets Ark, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

22 Derpå opstillede han Bordet i Åbenbaringsteltet ved Boligens nordre Væg uden for Forhænget,

23 og han lagde Brødene i ække derpå for HE ENs Åsyn, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

24 Derpå satte han Lysestagen ind i Åbenbaringsteltet lige over for Bordet, ved Boligens søndre Væg;

25 og han satte Lamperne derpå for HE ENs Åsyn, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

26 Derpå stillede han Guldalteret op i Åbenbaringsteltet foran Forhænget,

27 og han tændte vellugtende øgelse derpå, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

28 Derpå hængte han Forhænget op for Boligens Indgang.

29 Brændofferalteret opstillede han foran Indgangen til Åbenbaringsteltets Bolig og ofrede Brændofferet og Afgrødeofferet derpå, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

30 Derpå opstillede han Vandkummen mellem Åbenbaringsteltet og Alteret og hældte Vand deri til Tvætning.

31 Og Moses og Aron og hans Sønner tvættede deres Hænder og Fødder deri;

32 når de gik ind i Åbenbaringsteltet og trådte hen til Alteret. tvættede de sig, som HE EN havde pålagt Moses.

33 Så rejste han Forgården rundt om Boligen og Alteret og hængte Forhænget op for Forgårdens Indgang. Hermed var Moses færdig med Arbejdet.

34 Da dækkede Skyen Åbenbaringsteltet, og HE ENs Herlighed fyldte Boligen;

35 og Moses kunde ikke gå ind i Åbenbaringsteltet, fordi Skyen havde lagt sig derover, og HE ENs Herlighed fyldte Boligen.

36 Men under hele deres Vandring brød Israeliterne op, når Skyen løftede sig fra Boligen;

37 og når Skyen ikke løftede sig. brød de ikke op, men ventede, til den atter løftede sig.

38 Thi HE ENs Sky lå over Boligen om Dagen, og om Natten lyste Ild i Skyen for alle Israeliternes Øjne under hele deres Vandring.

9832. 'And they shall take the gold' means the good reigning universally. This is clear from the meaning of 'gold' as the good of love, dealt with in 113, 1551, 1552, 5658, 6914, 6917, 9490, 9510. Its reigning universally is meant by the fact that the gold was interwoven everywhere in the ephod, as is clear from what is stated later on in this book,

They beat out 1 the plates of gold and cut them up into threads, to work in among the violet, and in among the purple, and in among the twice-dyed scarlet, and in among the fine linen. Exodus 39:3.

'Reigning universally' describes that which is dominant and so is present in each individual part, see 5949, 6159, 7648, 8067, 8853-8858, 8865. The reason why the gold was interwoven everywhere was that Aaron's garments represented the spiritual heaven, 9814, and in that heaven good holds sway, as it also does in the remaining heavens. In the inmost heaven it is the good of love to the Lord, in the middle one the good of charity towards the neighbour, and in the lowest the good of faith. The truth however which belongs to faith leads the way to good, and afterwards is brought forth from it. From this it is evident that a person is not in heaven until good is present within him. If merely the knowledge of truths, called the truths of faith, is present in a person he does no more than stand in front of the door; or if, knowing those truths, he is looking towards good he goes through into the porch. But if, in knowing those truths, he is not looking towards good he cannot see heaven, not even from a long way off. The reason for saying that a person is not in heaven until good is present within him is that a person must have heaven within him while in the world if he is to enter it after death. For heaven exists within people; and it is granted in mercy to those who during their life in the world allow themselves to be led by means of the truths of faith into charity towards the neighbour and into love to the Lord, that is, into good. People are not in heaven until they have come into that state in which the Lord leads them by means of good, see 8516, 8539, 8722, 8772, 9139. By good is meant the good of life; and the good of life consists in the performance of what is good because there is a will for what is good, and a will for what is good springs from love; for what a person loves, he wills.

8516. 'Therefore on the sixth day He gives you the bread of two days' means that for this reason right at the end of the former state He imparts so great an amount of truth through good that the joining together takes place after that. This is clear from the meaning of 'the sixth day' as the end of a former state, dealt with in 8421; from the meaning of the manna, to which 'the bread' refers here, as the good of truth, dealt with in 8462, 8464; and from the meaning of the sabbath, for which day also the manna on the sixth day was given, so that it was two days' bread, as the joining together of goodness and truth, dealt with in 8495. It has been shown above that since 'the sabbath' means the joining together of goodness and truth, the fact that no man[na] was to be found on the seventh day means that when that joining together has taken place a person's actions spring from good and no longer from truth, indeed that they must not any longer spring from truth, 8510.

[2] But as this appears rather baffling, let a few further words of explanation be added. Everyone ought to be led to Christian good, which is called charity, through the truth of faith; for the truth of faith must teach not only what charity is but also what it needs to be like. And unless a person learns this first from the teachings of his Church - for he cannot by any means know it instinctively - he cannot be prepared and so made fit to receive that good. For example, he needs to know from religious teachings that charity in no way involves doing good for selfish reasons, that is, for the sake of reward, nor thus meriting salvation through the works of charity. He also needs to know that all the good of charity originates in the Lord, and none whatever in self, besides very many other teachings telling him what charity is and needs to be like. From all this it becomes clear that a person cannot be led to Christian good except through the truths of faith. In addition a person needs to know that truths do not of themselves enter good but that good adopts truths and attaches them to itself; for the truths of faith in a person's memory lie so to speak in a field that is spread out before his inward vision. Good from the Lord flows into that vision, and from the truths present there it selects and joins to itself those that are compatible. The truths, which lie below, cannot flow into the good, which is above, since it is altogether contrary to order, as well as impossible, for what is lower to flow into what is higher, 5259.

[3] From all this one may now see how Christian good is born with a person when he is being regenerated, and therefore also what a person will be like when he has been regenerated, namely one whose actions spring from good, but not from truth. That is, he is one who is led by the Lord through good and no longer through truth, for now he is governed by charity, that is, by an affection for doing that good. All who are in heaven are led in such a manner, for it is in keeping with Divine order. Thus everything they think or do flows so to speak spontaneously and freely. It would be altogether different if truth were to shape their thought and action, for then they would cogitate over whether or not they should do a certain thing, and so would hesitate over details, and in so doing would obscure the light they have. Eventually they would act in accord with what they themselves loved, thus in accord with influences that pander to their own loves, which is to be led by self, not by the Lord. From all this it is again evident what it is to be forbidden to acquire good through truth any longer, meant by the people gathering manna on six days, and finding none on the seventh day, dealt with in 8505, 8506, 8510.
