25 Hast thou not heard, from far·​·off, that I have done it and, from the ancient days, that I have formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, and it shall be for laying·​·waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

Verse 25. But the Divine Truth is in every change through which the church passes both as to celestial and as to spiritual things; and it is only by Divine permission that corrupted reason can devastate the church, perverting its doctrinal defences by depraved affections.
