That this signifies an external binding-together, is evident from the signification of “the girdle,” as being a general bond by which the interior things are held in connection (see above, n. 9828), thus it signifies a binding-together. That it denotes an external binding-together, is because by “the ephod” is signified the external of the spiritual kingdom (n. 9824).
