3965. Verses 22-24. And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son, and said, God hath gathered my reproach. And she called his name Joseph, saying, Let Jehovah add to me another son. “And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her,” signifies foresight and providence; “and opened her womb,” signifies the capacity to receive and acknowledge; “and she conceived, and bare a son,” signifies reception and acknowledgment; “and said, God hath gathered my reproach; and she called his name Joseph, saying, Let Jehovah add to me another son,” signifies in the supreme sense the Lord as to the Divine spiritual; in the internal sense, the spiritual kingdom, or the good of faith; and in the external sense, salvation, also fructification and multiplication.
