4514. 'Jacob said' means the external Ancient Church. This is clear from the representation of 'Jacob' as the Ancient Church, dealt with in 4439. In Genesis 19:8, they signify the affections of good and truth, and the blessedness perceivable from the enjoyment thereof by people who do not violate the divine and holy principle of the Lord.
