And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacobsaid, Thou shalt not give me any thing; if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:
3989. 'He said, What shall I give you?' means knowledge. This becomes clear from its being an anxious desire and a request to know what he wanted for wages and how much.
'And Jacob said' means a reply. This is clear without explanation.
