Let I pray a little water be taken, and wash ye your feet, and lie down under the tree. “Let I pray a little water be taken,” signifies that they should draw near, and let themselves down from things Divine nearer to His intellectual things; “and wash ye your feet,” signifies that they should put on something natural, in order that in the state in which He then was, He might the better perceive; “and lie down under the tree,” signifies near to the perception of His state in which He was; “tree” is perception.
