1 Տէրն այցելեց Սառային, ինչպէս ասել էր, եւ կատարեց Սառային տուած իր խոստումը:

2 Սառան յղիացաւ ու Աբրահամի համար ծեր տարիքում որդի ծնեց ճիշտ այն ժամանակ, ինչպէս Աստուած յայտնել էր Աբրահամին:

3 Աբրահամն իր որդու անունը, որին ծնեց Սառան նրա համար, դրեց Իսահակ:

4 Աբրահամն ութերորդ օրը թլփատեց իր որդի Իսահակին, ինչպէս պատուիրել էր նրան Տէր Աստուած:

5 Աբրահամը հարիւր տարեկան էր, երբ ունեցաւ իր որդի Իսահակին:

6 Սառան ասաց. «Աստուած ուրախութիւն պարգեւեց ինձ, եւ ով որ լսի այդ մասին, ինձ հետ կ՚ուրախանայ»:

7 Նա աւելացրեց. «Ո՞վ կ՚ասէր Աբրահամին, թէ Սառան երեխայ կը սնուցանի, քանի որ ծեր հասակում որդի ծնեցի»:

8 Մանուկն աճեց, նրան կրծքից կտրեցին, եւ Աբրահամն իր որդի Իսահակի կրծքից կտրուելու առթիւ մեծ խնջոյք արեց:

9 Երբ Սառան տեսաւ, որ եգիպտուհի Ագարից Աբրահամի ունեցած որդին խաղում է իր որդի Իսահակի հետ, ասաց Աբրահամին.

10 «Հեռացրո՛ւ քո աղախնին եւ նրա որդուն, որպէսզի քո աղախնի որդին իմ որդի Իսահակի հետ հաւասար ժառանգութիւն չստանայ»:

11 Իր որդու մասին ասուած այդ խօսքերը ցաւ պատճառեցին Աբրահամին:

12 Աստուած ասաց Աբրահամին. «Մանկան եւ աղախնի մասին ասուած խօսքերը թող քեզ ցաւ չպատճառեն: Ինչ որ ասի քեզ Սառան, լսի՛ր նրան, որովհետեւ Իսահակի միջոցով ես դու սերունդդ շարունակելու,

13 բայց քո աղախնի որդու սերունդն էլ ես նշանաւոր կը դարձնեմ, որովհետեւ նա էլ քո սերմից է»:

14 Առաւօտեան վեր կացաւ Աբրահամը, առաւ հաց ու մի տիկ ջուր, տուեց Ագարին, մանկանը դրեց նրա շալակին եւ տնից դուրս հանեց: Ագարը թափառում էր անապատում, Երդման ջրհորի մօտ:

15 Տիկի ջուրն սպառուեց, մայրը մանկանը դրեց մի եղեւնու տակ

16 եւ գնաց նստեց նրա դիմաց, մի նետընկեց հեռաւորութեան վրայ՝ ասելով. «Թող ես չտեսնեմ իմ որդու մահը»: Նա նստել էր նրա դիմաց: Երեխան բարձրաձայն լալիս էր:

17 Աստուած լսեց երեխայի ձայնը, որ գալիս էր այնտեղից: Աստուած երկնքից Ագարին ձայն տուեց ու ասաց. «Ի՞նչ է պատահել, Ագա՛ր: Մի՛ վախեցիր, որովհետեւ Աստուած լսեց քո որդու ձայնը այնտեղից, ուր նա գտնւում է:

18 Բռնի՛ր քո մանկան ձեռքից, որովհետեւ ես նրան մեծ ազգի նախահայր եմ դարձնելու»:

19 Աստուած բացեց Ագարի աչքերը, սա տեսաւ ըմպելի ջրի մի ջրհոր, գնաց, տիկը լցրեց ջրով ու խմեցրեց երեխային:

20 Եւ Աստուած երեխայի հետ էր. սա աճեց, դարձաւ աղեղնաւոր

21 եւ բնակուեց Փառանի անապատում: Մայրը նրա համար Եգիպտացիների երկրից կին առաւ:

22 Այդ ժամանակներում Աբիմելէքը, նրա սենեկապետ Ոքոզաթն ու նրա զօրքերի սպարապետ Փիքողը, խօսելով Աբրահամի հետ, ասացին. «Աստուած քեզ հետ է բոլոր այն գործերում, ինչ դու անում ես:

23 Արդ, Աստծու անունով ինձ երդուի՛ր, որ ո՛չ իմ, ո՛չ իմ զաւակի, ո՛չ իմ անուան դէմ չես մեղանչի, այլ կը վարուես այնպէս արդար, ինչպէս ես վարուեցի քո նկատմամբ, նոյնպէս եւ իմ երկրի նկատմամբ, ուր դու բնակւում ես»:

24 Աբրահամն ասաց. «Երդւում եմ»:

25 Աբրահամն Աբիմելէքին յանդիմանեց այն ջրհորի համար, որ Աբիմելէքի ծառաները խլել էին:

26 Աբիմելէքն ասաց նրան. «Ես չեմ իմացել, թէ ով է արել այդ բանը, իսկ դու էլ ինձ բան չես ասել: Ես միայն այսօր եմ լսում այդ մասին»:

27 Աբրահամն առաւ արջառներ ու ոչխարներ, տուեց Աբիմելէքին, եւ երկուսն իրար հետ հաշտութիւն կնքեցին:

28 Աբրահամը եօթը որոջ առանձնացրեց:

29 Աբիմելէքը հարցրեց Աբրահամին. «Ի՞նչ են նշանակում այս եօթը որոջները, որոնց առանձնացրիր»:

30 Նա պատասխանեց. «Այս եօթը որոջները ստացիր ինձնից ի հաւաստումն այն բանի, թէ ես եմ փորել այդ ջրհորը»: Դրա համար էլ այդ վայրը կոչուեց Երդման ջրհոր,

31 որովհետեւ նրանք երկուսով միմեանց երդում տուեցին այնտեղ. Երդման ջրհորի մօտ հաշտութիւն կնքեցին: Աբիմելէքը, նրա սենեկապետ Ոքոզաթն ու նրա զօրքերի սպարապետ Փիքողը այնտեղից վեր կացան ու վերադարձան Փղշտացւոց երկիրը:

32 Աբրահամը Երդման ջրհորի մօտ ծառ տնկեց, այնտեղ պաշտեց Տիրոջը, նրան կոչեց Աստուած յաւիտենական:

33 Աբրահամը Փղշտացւոց երկրում պանդուխտ մնաց երկար ժամանակ:

2649. On the day when he weaned Isaac. That this signifies the state of separation, is evident from the signification of “day,” as being state (see n. 23, 487, 488, 493, 893); and from the signification of “being weaned,” as being to be separated (see n. 2647). From the first verse of this chapter the uniting of the Lord’s Divine Essence with His Human Essence has been treated of, in this order: The presence of the Divine in the Human for the sake of unition (verse 1). The presence of the Human in the Divine, and thus a reciprocal unition (see n. 2004) (verse 2). From this unition the Human was made Divine (verse 3). And this successively and continually while the Lord lived in the world (verse 4). And this commenced when the rational was in a state to receive (verse 5). The state of the unition is described as to its quality, with its arcana (verses 6-7). Now follows the separation of the maternal human, and this is continued down to verse 12; which separation is signified in this verse by the weaning of Isaac, and is represented in the following verses by Hagar’s son being sent away out of the house. And as the union of the Lord’s Divine with His Human and of His Human with His Divine is the very marriage of good and truth, and from it is the heavenly marriage, which is the same as the Lord’s kingdom, therefore a great feast is mentioned which Abraham made when he weaned Isaac, by which the beginning of marriage or the first union is signified; which feast and weaning, but for the signification, would never have been mentioned.

[2] As the separation of the first human, which the Lord had from the mother, now follows, and at length the full removal of it, it is to be known that the Lord gradually and continually, even to the last of His life when He was glorified, separated from Himself and put off that which was merely human, namely, that which He derived from the mother, until at length He was no longer her son, but the Son of God, not only as to conception but also as to birth, and thus was one with the Father, and was Jehovah Himself. That He separated from Himself and put off all the human from the mother, so that He was no longer her son, is manifest from His words in John:

When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said unto Him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what [belongs] to Me and to thee ? (John 2:3-4).

In Matthew:

One said, Behold, Thy mother and Thy brethren stand without, seeking to speak to Thee. But Jesus answering said unto him that told Him, Who is My mother? and who are My brethren? And stretching forth His hand toward His disciples, He said, Behold My mother, and My brethren; for whosoever shall do the will of My Father who is in the heavens, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother (Matthew 12:47-50; Mark 3:2-35; Luke 8:20-21).

In Luke:

A certain woman out of the multitude lifting up her voice, said unto Him, Blessed is the womb that bare Thee, and the breasts which Thou didst suck. But Jesus said, Blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it (Luke 11:27-28).

[3] Here, when the woman spoke of His mother, the Lord spoke of those described above, namely, “Whoever shall do the will of My Father, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother;” which is the same as this, “Blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it.”

In John:

Jesus seeing His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing by, said unto His mother, Woman, behold thy son. Then said He to the disciple, Behold thy mother. Therefore from that hour the disciple took her to his own home (John 19:26-27).

From these words it is manifest that the Lord spoke to her according to her thought when she saw Him on the cross, and even then not calling her mother, but “woman;” and that He transferred the name of mother to those who are signified by the disciple; on which account He said to the disciple, “Behold thy mother.” Still more manifest is this from the Lord’s own words, in Matthew:

Jesus asked the Pharisees, saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is He? They say unto Him, David’s. He saith unto them, How then doth David in the spirit call Him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand until I make Thine enemies Thy foot stool? If David therefore call Him Lord, how is He his Son ? And no one was able to answer Him a word (Matthew 22:41-46 Mark 12:35-37 Luke 20:42-44).

Thus He was no longer the Son of David as to the flesh.

[4] And further, in regard to the separation and putting off of the maternal human those do not comprehend this who have merely corporeal ideas respecting the Lord’s Human, and think of it as of the human of any other man; hence to such these things are stumbling-blocks. They do not know that such as the life is such is the man, and that the Divine Esse [Being] of life, or Jehovah, was in the Lord from conception, and that a similar Esse of life came forth in His Human by means of the union.

1 Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken.

2 Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

4 Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

6 Sarah said, "God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me."

7 She said, "Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age."

8 The child grew, and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

10 Therefore she said to Abraham, "Cast out this handmaid and her son! For the son of this handmaid will not be heir with my son, Isaac."

11 The thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight on account of his son.

12 God said to Abraham, "Don't let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your seed be called.

13 I will also make a nation of the son of the handmaid, because he is your seed."

14 Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15 The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

16 She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, "Don't let me see the death of the child." She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

17 God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, "What ails you, Hagar? Don't be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

18 Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation."

19 God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink.

20 God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer.

21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

22 It happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, "God is with you in all that you do.

23 Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have lived as a foreigner."

24 Abraham said, "I will swear."

25 Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a water well, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

26 Abimelech said, "I don't know who has done this thing. Neither did you tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today."

27 Abraham took sheep and cattle, and gave them to Abimelech. Those two made a covenant.

28 Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 Abimelech said to Abraham, "What do these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves mean?"

30 He said, "You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well."

31 Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore there.

32 So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the captain of his army, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.

34 Abraham lived as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines many days.
