Arcana Coelestia # 3261
3261. 'And Isaac dwelt in 1 Beer Lahai Roi' means the Lord's Divine Rational dwelling in Divine light. This is clear from the meaning of 'dwelling' as living, dealt with in 1293, and from the meaning of 'Beer Lahai Roi' as Divine Rational Good born from Divine Truth itself, dealt with in 3194. Consequently the proximate sense is that the Divine Rational lived or existed along with, but not actually in Divine Good that was born from Divine Truth itself. This explains why it is not said 'in' but 'with' Beer Lahai Roi, which when translated means, With the Spring of the Living One who sees me; that is, With that Divine Good. Actually Isaac dwelt in the land of the south, according to the following statement made in Verse 62 of the previous chapter, 'And Isaac had come from Beer Lahai Roi, and was dwelling in the land of the south'. And because in that verse 'the land of the south' means Divine light radiating from that Good, 3195, it has no other meaning here.
