14 וַיִּשְׁלַח חִזְקִיָּה מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה אֶל־מֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר לָכִישָׁה לֵאמֹר חָטָאתִי שׁוּב מֵעָלַי אֵת אֲשֶׁר־תִּתֵּן עָלַי אֶשָּׂא וַיָּשֶׂם מֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר עַל־חִזְקִיָּה מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות כִּכַּר־כֶּסֶף וּשְׁלֹשִׁים כִּכַּר זָהָב׃

Verse 14. And being, in this state, under the influence of the fallacy that life is self-derived, which is the persuasion of corrupted reason, he is disposed to admit the superiority of this delusion, and while desiring deliverance, to be imposed upon; and therefore false reasoning suggests or insinuates that all the truth and good of the church are also self-acquired.
