Married Partners

Door New Christian Bible Study Staff, Julian Duckworth

“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;… Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good….” Genesis 1:27-28 and 31

So we can see that from the very beginning God made each of us to be married and that when we are married, we are in the image of God. Marriage provides for future generations of people on earth and for angels in heaven.

Marriage is eternal. The New Church marriage ceremony does not say, “Till death do us part.” When we die and go to the spiritual world, we are still male or female. We need to be joined to a soul-mate to be complete - to be still in the image of God.

Swedenborg describes how such angelic married pairs appear from a distance as one angel while closer up they can be seen as two who are joined together in a loving marriage.

See What the Bible says about… Marriage and Spirituality in Spiritual Topics for a great explanation and description of this subject.
