Numbers 27

Studie

Then came··near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the chiefs and all the congregation, by the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation, saying,

Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in` the midst of the congregation that congregated against Jehovah in the congregation of Korah; for he died in his own sin, and had not sons.

Why should the name of our father be diminished from the midst of his family, for he has no son? Give to us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father.

And Moses offered their judgment before Jehovah.

And Jehovah said to Moses, saying,

The daughters of Zelophehad speak rightly; giving thou shalt give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.

And thou shalt speak to the sons of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.

And if he have no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

And if he have no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

And if his father have no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kin that is near to him from his family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be for the sons of Israel a statute of judgment, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Go· ·up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel.

And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered to thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.

For you rebelled··against My mouth in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify Me at the water before their eyes; they are the waters of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

And Moses spoke to Jehovah, saying,

Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

who may go··out before them, and who may go··in before them, and who may bring· them ·out, and who may bring· them ·in; and the congregation of Jehovah will not be as a flock which has no shepherd.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thy hand upon him;

and stand him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a command before their eyes.

And thou shalt put some of thy majesty upon him, so··that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hearken to him.

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, and he shall ask counsel for him over the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah; by his mouth shall they go··out, and by his mouth they shall come··in, both he, and all the sons of Israel with him, and all the congregation.

And Moses did as Jehovah commanded him; and he took Joshua, and stood him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

and he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a command, as Jehovah had spoken by the hand of Moses.

9858. 'With the work of a designer' means a product of the understanding. This is clear from the meaning of 'a designer' as the power of understanding, dealt with in 9598, 9688. The words 'a product of the understanding' are used because the Lord's spiritual kingdom, which is represented by Aaron's garments, is heaven's power of understanding, even as His celestial kingdom is its power of will. And the powers of understanding and will that a human being has correspond to those heavens, see 9835.
