Ezekiel 1

Étudier

And it was, in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiled by the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

In the fifth day of the month, this was the fifth year for the exile of King Joiachin,

the word of Jehovah was expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and the hand of Jehovah was there upon him.

And I saw, and, behold, a tempest of winds came out··of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was around it, and out··of the midst of it as the aspect of amber, out··of the midst of the fire.

And from the midst of it came the likeness of four animals. And this was their appearance; these had the likeness of man.

And each had four faces, and each had four wings.

And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was as the sole of the foot of a calf; and they sparkled as the aspect of burnished bronze.

And they had human hands under their wings on their four quarters; and the four of them had their faces and their wings.

Their wings were coupled one to the other*; they turned· not ·around when they went; they went each with his face across*.

And the likeness of their faces, the four of them had a human face, and the face of a lion to the right; and the four of them had the face of an ox to the left; and the four of them had the face of an eagle.

Thus were their faces; and their wings were separated upward; two wings of each were coupled to each other, and two covered their bodies.

And they went each with his face across; whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned· not ·around when they went.

And the likeness of the living things, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches walking between the living things; and to the fire was brightness, and from the fire went··out lightning.

And the living things ran and returned as the appearance of a flash··of··lightning.

And I saw the animals, and, behold, one wheel on the earth beside each of the animals, at the four faces thereof.

The appearance of the wheels and their making was like··to the aspect of a tarshish*; and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the midst of a wheel.

When they went, they went on their four quarters; they turned· not ·around when they went.

As for their rims, they were so tall that they were fearsome; and their rims* were full of eyes all around the four of them.

And when the animals went, the wheels went beside them; and when the animals were lifted··up from on the earth, the wheels were lifted··up.

Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went; thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted··up alongside them, for the spirit of the living thing was in the wheels.

When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted··up from off the earth, the wheels were lifted··up alongside them; for the spirit of the living thing was in the wheels.

And the likeness of the expanse over the heads of the animals was as the aspect of fearful ice*, stretched over their heads from above.

And under the expanse their wings were upright, the one toward the other*; each had two covering for them, and each had two covering for them, their bodies.

And I heard the voice of their wings, as the voice of many waters, as the voice of Shaddai, when they went, the voice of tumult, as the voice of a camp; when they stood, they slackened their wings.

And there was a voice from the expanse that was over their heads, when they stood, and had slackened their wings.

And above the expanse that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone; and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

And I saw as the aspect of amber, as the appearance of fire within it all around, from the appearance of His loins and upward, and from the appearance of His loins and downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness all around.

As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of showers, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. It was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spoke.
