1 وكلم الرب موسى وهرون في ارض مصر قائلا.

2 هذا الشهر يكون لكم راس الشهور. هو لكم اول شهور السنة.

3 كلّما كل جماعة اسرائيل قائلين في العاشر من هذا الشهر يأخذون لهم كل واحد شاة بحسب بيوت الآباء شاة للبيت.

4 وان كان البيت صغيرا عن ان يكون كفوا لشاة يأخذ هو وجاره القريب من بيته بحسب عدد النفوس. كل واحد على حسب اكله تحسبون للشاة.

5 تكون لكم شاة صحيحة ذكرا ابن سنة. تأخذونه من الخرفان او من المواعز.

6 ويكون عندكم تحت الحفظ الى اليوم الرابع عشر من هذا الشهر. ثم يذبحه كل جمهور جماعة اسرائيل في العشية.

7 ويأخذون من الدم ويجعلونه على القائمتين والعتبة العليا في البيوت التي يأكلونه فيها.

8 ويأكلون اللحم تلك الليلة مشويا بالنار مع فطير. على اعشاب مرّة ياكلونه.

9 لا تأكلوا منه نيئا او طبيخا مطبوخا بالماء بل مشويا بالنار. راسه مع اكارعه وجوفه.

10 ولا تبقوا منه الى الصباح. والباقي منه الى الصباح تحرقونه بالنار.

11 وهكذا تأكلونه احقاؤكم مشدودة واحذيتكم في ارجلكم وعصيّكم في ايديكم. وتاكلونه بعجلة. هو فصح للرب.

12 فاني اجتاز في ارض مصر هذه الليلة واضرب كل بكر في ارض مصر من الناس والبهائم. واصنع احكاما بكل آلهة المصريين. انا الرب.

13 ويكون لكم الدم علامة على البيوت التي انتم فيها. فأرى الدم واعبر عنكم. فلا يكون عليكم ضربة للهلاك حين اضرب ارض مصر.

14 ويكون لكم هذا اليوم تذكارا فتعيّدونه عيدا للرب. في اجيالكم تعيّدونه فريضة ابدية

15 سبعة ايام تأكلون فطيرا. اليوم الاول تعزلون الخمير من بيوتكم. فان كل من اكل خميرا من اليوم الاول الى اليوم السابع تقطع تلك النفس من اسرائيل.

16 ويكون لكم في اليوم الاول محفل مقدس وفي اليوم السابع محفل مقدس. لا يعمل فيهما عمل ما الا ما تاكله كل نفس فذلك وحده يعمل منكم.

17 وتحفظون الفطير لاني في هذا اليوم عينه اخرجت اجنادكم من ارض مصر. فتحفظون هذا اليوم في اجيالكم فريضة ابدية.

18 في الشهر الاول في اليوم الرابع عشر من الشهر مساء تاكلون فطيرا الى اليوم الحادي والعشرين من الشهر مساء.

19 سبعة ايام لا يوجد خمير في بيوتكم. فان كل من اكل مختمرا تقطع تلك النفس من جماعة اسرائيل الغريب مع مولود الارض.

20 لا تأكلوا شيئا مختمرا في جميع مساكنكم تأكلون فطيرا

21 فدعا موسى جميع شيوخ اسرائيل وقال لهم اسحبوا وخذوا لكم غنما بحسب عشائركم واذبحوا الفصح.

22 وخذوا باقة زوفا واغمسوها في الدم الذي في الطست ومسّوا العتبة العليا والقائمتين بالدم الذي في الطست. وانتم لا يخرج احد منكم من باب بيته حتى الصباح.

23 فان الرب يجتاز ليضرب المصريين. فحين يرى الدم على العتبة العليا والقائمتين يعبر الرب عن الباب ولا يدع المهلك يدخل بيوتكم ليضرب.

24 فتحفظون هذا الامر فريضة لك ولاولادك الى الابد.

25 ويكون حين تدخلون الارض التي يعطيكم الرب كما تكلم انكم تحفظون هذه الخدمة.

26 ويكون حين يقول لكم اولادكم ما هذه الخدمة لكم

27 انكم تقولون هي ذبيحة فصح للرب الذي عبر عن بيوت بني اسرائيل في مصر لما ضرب المصريين وخلّص بيوتنا. فخرّ الشعب وسجدوا.

28 ومضى بنو اسرائيل وفعلوا كما امر الرب موسى وهرون. هكذا فعلوا

29 فحدث في نصف الليل ان الرب ضرب كل بكر في ارض مصر من بكر فرعون الجالس على كرسيه الى بكر الاسير الذي في السجن وكل بكر بهيمة.

30 فقام فرعون ليلا هو وكل عبيده وجميع المصريين. وكان صراخ عظيم في مصر. لانه لم يكن بيت ليس فيه ميت.

31 فدعا موسى وهرون ليلا وقال قوموا اخرجوا من بين شعبي انتما وبنو اسرائيل جميعا. واذهبوا اعبدوا الرب كما تكلمتم.

32 خذوا غنمكم ايضا وبقركم كما تكلمتم واذهبوا. وباركوني ايضا.

33 والحّ المصريون على الشعب ليطلقوهم عاجلا من الارض. لانهم قالوا جميعنا اموات

34 فحمل الشعب عجينهم قبل ان يختمر ومعاجنهم مصرورة في ثيابهم على اكتافهم.

35 وفعل بنو اسرائيل بحسب قول موسى. طلبوا من المصريين امتعة فضة وامتعة ذهب وثيابا.

36 واعطى الرب نعمة للشعب في عيون المصريين حتى اعاروهم. فسلبوا المصريين.

37 فارتحل بنو اسرائيل من رعمسيس الى سكوت نحو ست مئة الف ماش من الرجال عدا الاولاد.

38 وصعد معهم لفيف كثير ايضا مع غنم وبقر مواش وافرة جدا.

39 وخبزوا العجين الذي اخرجوه من مصر خبز ملة فطيرا اذ كان لم يختمر. لانهم طردوا من مصر ولم يقدروا ان يتأخروا. فلم يصنعوا لانفسهم زادا

40 واما اقامة بني اسرائيل التي اقاموها في مصر فكانت اربع مئة وثلاثين سنة.

41 وكان عند نهاية اربع مئة وثلاثين سنة في ذلك اليوم عينه ان جميع اجناد الرب خرجت من ارض مصر.

42 هي ليلة تحفظ للرب لاخراجه اياهم من ارض مصر. هذه الليلة هي للرب. تحفظ من جميع بني اسرائيل في اجيالهم

43 وقال الرب لموسى وهرون هذه فريضة الفصح. كل ابن غريب لا يأكل منه.

44 ولكن كل عبد رجل مبتاع بفضة تختنه ثم يأكل منه.

45 النزيل والاجير لا ياكلان منه.

46 في بيت واحد يؤكل. لا تخرج من اللحم من البيت الى خارج. وعظما لا تكسروا منه.

47 كل جماعة اسرائيل يصنعونه.

48 واذا نزل عندك نزيل وصنع فصحا للرب فليختن منه كل ذكر ثم يتقدم ليصنعه. فيكون كمولود الارض. واما كل اغلف فلا ياكل منه.

49 تكون شريعة واحدة لمولود الارض وللنزيل النازل بينكم.

50 ففعل جميع بني اسرائيل كما امر الرب موسى وهرون. هكذا فعلوا

51 وكان في ذلك اليوم عينه ان الرب اخرج بني اسرائيل من ارض مصر بحسب اجنادهم

28. The Firstborn from the dead, signifies from whom is all good in heaven. This is evident from the signification of the "firstborn," as being, in reference to the Lord, Divine good in heaven, thus all good there. The "firstborn" signifies this, because by generations, in general and in particular, spiritual generations are signified, which are the generations of good and truth or of love and faith; from this it is, that by "father," "mother," "sons," "daughters," "sons-in-law," "daughters-in-law," and "son's sons," are signified goods and truths which generate and are generated in their order (Arcana Coelestia 10490), for in heaven there are no other nativities. This being so, by "firstborn" is not meant the firstborn, but the good of heaven and of the church, because this is in the first place. And since it is the Lord from whom all good in heaven is, He is called the "Firstborn." He is called "the Firstborn from the dead," because, when He arose from the dead, He made His Human to be Divine good by union with the Divine that was in Him from conception.

[2] This is why He is called "the Firstborn from the dead," and says of Himself in David:

I will make Him the Firstborn, high above the kings of the earth (Psalms 89:27).

What is meant by His being "high above the kings of the earth" will be seen in a subsequent article.

(That the Lord, when He departed from the world, made His Human Divine good, see Arcana Coelestia 3194, 3210, 6864, 7499, 8724, 9199, 10076; thus that He came forth from the Father and returned to the Father, n. 3194, 3210; and that after the union, the Divine truth, which is the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, proceeds from Him, n. 3704, 3712, 3969, 4577, 5704, 7499, 8127, 8241, 9199, 9398, 9407. But this arcanum may be seen more fully explained in the small work on The Doctrine of the New Jerusalem 293-295; and in the passages there cited from the Arcana Coelestia 303-305.)

As the Lord in respect to the Divine Human is called "the Firstborn," for the reason that all good proceeds from Him, so all the firstborn in the Israelitish church were holy to Jehovah; so also the Levites were received in place of all the firstborn in Israel; for by the sons of Levi were represented those of the church who are in the good of charity: therefore also a double portion of inheritance was allotted to the firstborn; all this for the reason that the firstborn signified the good that is from the Lord, and in the highest sense, the Lord Himself in respect to the Divine Human from which is all good. For all things that were commanded in the Israelitish church were representative of Divine things, spiritual and celestial.

[3] That all the firstborn in the Israelitish church were holy to Jehovah appears from Moses, in the following passages:

Sanctify unto Me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is Mine (Exodus 13:2).

Thou shalt cause to pass over unto Jehovah all that openeth the womb, and every firstling that cometh of a beast, as many as thou hast, the males shall be Jehovah's (Exodus 13:12).

Thou shalt not delay to offer the firstfruits of thy produce, and the firstfruits of thy wine. The firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto Me. Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheep; seven days it shall be with its dam: on the eighth day thou shalt give it Me. And ye shall be men of holiness unto Me (Exodus 22:29-31).

They were to give also the firstborn of beasts, because these, too, were representative; and because they represented they were also made use of in burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

(What the various beasts in these services represented, see Arcana Coelestia 1823, 3519, 9280, 9980, 10042. Why the Levites were accepted in place of all the firstborn in Israel, see Numbers 3:12, 13, 41, 45; 8:15-20, was, as was said above, because the "sons of Levi" represented, and therefore signified, the good of charity, and "Levi," in the highest sense, signified the Lord as to that good, see Arcana Coelestia 3875, 3877, 4497, 4502, 4503, 10017. A double portion of the inheritance was given to the firstborn, Deuteronomy 21:17, because a "double portion" signified the good of love, Arcana Coelestia 720, 1686, 5194, 8423)

5427. 'And Joseph recognized his brothers' means that the truths of the Church were visible to the celestial of the spiritual in the light that this possessed. This is clear from the meaning of 'recognizing' as perceiving, seeing, and so being visible; from the representation of 'Joseph' as the celestial of the spiritual, dealt with already; and from the meaning of 'his brothers' as the general truths known to the Church, dealt with above in 5409, 5419. And Since 'Joseph recognized his brothers' means that those truths - the general truths known to the Church - were visible to the celestial of the spiritual, it follows that they were seen by the light in which the celestial of the spiritual dwells and so by the light which the celestial of the spiritual possesses. In this light, which is truth from the Divine, 5417, every single truth below - that is, within the natural - is visible. But the reverse is not possible if no intermediary is present, still less if no agreement between the two sides exists, no agreement enabling the two to be joined together. This becomes quite clear from the consideration that angels dwelling in the heavens, and so in the light of heaven, can see every single thing that happens in the world of spirits, which is immediately below the heavens, as well as every single thing that happens on the earth of the lower ones, and indeed that happens in the hells. But the reverse is not possible.

[2] It is also the case that the angels of a higher heaven can see everything that is happening in the heaven beneath them, but the reverse is not so unless an intermediary exists. Intermediary spirits also serve as the means by which communication forward and back takes place. When therefore those who are in a lower position and have no intermediary, and more particularly those who are not in agreement with the ones above them, look at the light of heaven, they see absolutely nothing at all; everything there appears to them to dwell in total obscurity. But in fact those in the place where they look dwell in the brightest light. This may be illustrated by the following unique experience: A large city once appeared in front of me, where there were thousands of different, delightful and beautiful sights. I saw these because an intermediary had been provided; yet the spirits present with me could not see a single thing because they had no intermediary. I was told that even though they are present in that place those who are not in agreement with the ones above them discern nothing whatever of the things existing there.

[3] The same is similarly true of a person's interior man or spirit, which is also called his soul. The interior man can see every single thing present and taking place in the exterior man; but the reverse is not possible unless the two are in agreement and an intermediary is present. To the exterior man therefore, when it is not in agreement with the interior man, the interior man does not appear to have any existence. It appears to be so completely non-existent that when anything is said about the interior man, it seems to the exterior man either to be so obscure that it is unwilling even to contemplate it or to be nothing it can believe in. But when agreement between the two does exist, the exterior man sees, with the help of the intermediary, what is going on in the interior man. For then the light which the interior man possesses enters into the light which the exterior or natural man possesses; that is, heavenly light passes into natural light and brightens it, and in this brighter light what is happening to the interior man is made visible. This is the origin of the intelligence and wisdom which the exterior man possesses. But if no intermediary is present, and especially if no agreement exists, the interior man sees and perceives what is going on in the exterior man and also to some extent guides it; the reverse however does not happen. More than that, if contrariety exists - that is to say, if the exterior man completely perverts or snuffs out what comes in by way of the interior man - the interior man is deprived of the light it receives from heaven, heaven is inaccessible to it, and a communication from hell with the exterior man is opened up.
