1 Taip buvo sutvertas dangus, žemė ir visi jų pulkai.

2 Dievas septintą dieną užbaigė savo darbus ir ilsėjosi septintą dieną po visų savo darbų, kuriuos atliko.

3 Dievas palaimino septintą dieną ir ją pašventino, nes joje ilsėjosi po visų savo darbų, kuriuos Dievas sukūrė ir padarė.

4 Tokia yra dangaus ir žemės kilmė, kai jie buvo sukurtidieną, kurią Viešpats Dievas sutvėrė žemę ir dangų,

5 ir visus lauko augalus, kurių dar nebuvo žemėje, ir visas lauko žoles, kurios dar nežėlė; nes Viešpats Dievas nesiuntė į žemę lietaus ir nebuvo žmogaus žemei įdirbti.

6 Migla kilo nuo žemės ir drėkino jos paviršių.

7 Ir Viešpats Dievas padarė žmogų iš žemės dulkių ir įkvėpė į jo šnerves gyvybės kvapą. Taip žmogus tapo gyva siela.

8 Viešpats Dievas sukūrė sodą Edene rytuose ir ten apgyvendino žmogų, kurį buvo sutvėręs.

9 Viešpats Dievas išaugino iš žemės visokių medžių, gražių pasižiūrėti ir nešančių gerus vaisius maistui; taip pat gyvybės medį sodo viduryje ir medį pažinimo gero ir blogo.

10 Upė tekėjo iš Edeno sodui drėkinti; nuo ten ji šakojosi į keturias upes.

11 Pirmosios vardas Pišonas. Ji teka aplink visą Havilos šalį, kur randamas auksas.

12 Tos šalies auksas yra geras. Ten randa bdeliją ir onikso akmenį.

13 Antrosios upės vardas Gihonas. Ji teka aplink visą Kušo šalį.

14 Trečiosios upės vardas Tigras. Ji teka į rytus nuo Asūro. O ketvirtoji upė yra Eufratas.

15 Ir paėmė Viešpats Dievas žmogų ir apgyvendino jį Edeno sode, kad žmogus jį įdirbtų ir prižiūrėtų.

16 Viešpats Dievas įsakė žmogui: “Nuo kiekvieno sodo medžio tau leista valgyti,

17 bet nuo medžio pažinimo gero ir blogo nevalgyk, nes tą dieną, kurią valgysi jo vaisių, tikrai mirsi”.

18 Viešpats Dievas tarė: “Negerai žmogui būti vienam. Aš padarysiu jam tinkamą padėjėją”.

19 Viešpats Dievas, padaręs iš žemės visus žvėris bei padangių paukščius, juos atvedė prie Adomo, kad matytų, kaip jis juos pavadins; kaip Adomas pavadino kiekvieną gyvą padarą, toks ir yra jo vardas.

20 Adomas davė vardus visiems gyvuliams, padangių paukščiams ir visiems lauko žvėrims, tačiau tarp jų neatsirado padėjėjo, tinkamo žmogui.

21 Tada Viešpats Dievas giliai užmigdė Adomą, išėmė vieną jo šonkaulių ir tą vietą užpildė kūnu.

22 Po to Viešpats Dievas iš šonkaulio, kurį išėmė iš žmogaus, padarė moterį ir ją atvedė pas žmogų.

23 Tada Adomas tarė: “Štai kaulas iš mano kaulų ir kūnas iš mano kūno! Šita bus vadinama moterimi, nes iš vyro ji paimta”.

24 Todėl vyras paliks savo tėvą bei motiną ir susijungs su savo žmona; ir juodu taps vienu kūnu.

25 Jie abu­žmogus ir jo žmona­buvo nuogi, tačiau nesigėdijo.

Genesis 2 - Synopsis

Genesis 2 tells the story of God’s creation of Adam from the dust of the earth, and the forming of the Garden of Eden at the headwaters of four rivers. In it there are many trees, with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the midst of them. Then God seeks a helpmeet for Adam, and creates Eve from Adam’s rib while he is sleeping.

Here’s a brief outline:

  • God rests on the seventh day, blesses it, and makes it holy. (Verses 1-4)
  • God creates man, Adam, from the dust of the earth (Verses 5-7)
  • God plants a garden in Eden (Verses 8-14)
  • Adam is placed in the Garden of Eden, and warned not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Verses 15-17)
  • God seeks a helpmeet for Adam, and creates Eve from one of Adam’s ribs, and they are married, conjoined. (Verses 18-25)

In its inner spiritual sense, this chapter continues the story of the regeneration, or rebirth, of a human being. The early verses describe a person reaching the seventh stage of rebirth, represented by the Sabbath. It’s the celestial or heavenly state, in which a person has become remade, internally, in the image and likeness of God. Then, God shines through in all that a celestial person does and speaks.

Also, on another level, this chapter begins the story of the most ancient church on earth, sometimes called the Adamic church. “Adam” in Hebrew means “man”, so this is the church of mankind, i.e. a beginning stage of spiritual development in early human beings.

The prior chapter ended with the sixth day, the spiritual stage when a person has been transformed by God into a spiritual person, after the lifelong series of battles that a person encounters in this process. In the opening of Genesis 1, a person is pictured as spiritually dead, void and empty, blind to the love and truth of God, and living his or her life in pursuit of worldly ambitions and sensual pleasures. The evil and falsities that permeate that kind of existence enslave us, and, on our own, we are fighting a losing battle. The bonds that restrain us from evil are fear of the law, fear of the loss of life or loss of wealth, and fear of damage to our reputations. This state is a “natural” one, i.e. not one with much spiritual depth or activity.

If we turn to the Lord for help, though, we can be reformed, and develop a spiritual life, and be reborn. A spiritual person is also in combat with temptations towards evil and falsity, but is victorious. The bonds that restrain such a person are internal – the bonds of conscience. The celestial person, who will be discussed in this chapter of Genesis, is no longer in such combat, because evil and falsities no longer hold any interest.

For this summary, here’s some important insight: In our life in this world, we are very much aware of our physical, natural existence, and largely unaware of our concurrent spiritual one. On the spiritual level, we are continually interacting with people who are already in heaven or hell – spirits, both good (angels) and bad (evil spirits). The classic cartoon image with the little angel on one shoulder and the little devil on the other, both trying to influence us, isn't that far from the truth.

In ancient times, people had a more direct ability to communicate with the spiritual world, but we’ve lost that ability as we’ve become more enmeshed in worldly affairs. In the spiritual battles we need to go through as we’re being reformed, as we become more in tune with God’s love and truth, angels are helping us on our path to reach heaven, both here, as we live out our lives, and then further in the next life.


Spiritual lessons from this chapter:

As we continue in our path to enlightenment, it is God who is still leading us and teaching us about his way. He will continue to feed us the spiritual food that will bring us wisdom and understanding. When we reach the final stage of rebirth, we fulfill the potential He hopes for when he creates us, being made in God's image and likeness -- still uniquely ourselves, but loving and wise, useful and active but internally at peace.

3670. 'And He will give you the blessing of Abraham' means the joining of the Divine itself to the good and truth of the natural. This is clear from the meaning of 'blessing' as a joining together, dealt with above in 3660, 3667, and from the representation of 'Abraham' as the Lord's Divine itself, which is called the Father, dealt with in 2011, 3251, 3439. And as these words are addressed to Jacob, who is to represent the Divine Good and Truth of the Lord's Divine Natural, it is a joining together of the Divine itself to the good and truth of the Natural - this joining together being meant in the internal sense by 'He will give you the blessing of Abraham'. In the sense of the letter it is possession of the land of Canaan that is meant by 'the blessing of Abraham', and also by the words that follow, 'to inherit the land of your sojournings, which God gave to Abraham'. This also is what these words are taken to mean by all who believe that the historical descriptions of the Word do not embody anything more heavenly and deeper than that. This is especially so with the Jewish nation, which also claims from that sense to hold a superior position to all other nations and peoples. Their forefathers understood those words in the same way, especially Jacob, who had that kind of disposition, as becomes clear from what has been stated just above in 3667. That is to say, he did not know Jehovah and was unwilling to acknowledge Him unless He conferred bodily and worldly benefits on him. The fact that neither Abraham, nor Isaac, nor Jacob were meant, but that Jacob represented the Lord's Natural which He was to make Divine is abundantly evident from the explanations given. The same applies to the character of any person who represents, whether evil or good; for the evil are no less able to represent, and have represented, the Lord's Divine, see 665, 1097, 1361.

[2] The same may be seen from the representatives which also exist at the present day. For all kings, no matter who they are or what they are like, represent the Lord through the kingly office itself residing with them; and in like manner all priests, no matter who they are or what they are like, do so through their priestly office. The kingly office itself and the priestly office itself are sacred, no matter who serves in them. Consequently the Word taught by someone evil is no less sacred; nor is the Sacrament of Baptism, or the Holy Supper, or similar ministrations any less so. From this it may also be seen that no king can possibly claim as his own the sacredness that goes with his kingly office, nor any priest the sacredness that goes with his priestly office. Insofar as he does claim it or attribute it to himself he brands himself with the sign of a spiritual thief, or the mark of spiritual theft. And insofar as he commits what is evil, that is, acts contrary to what is right and fair, and contrary to what is good and true, a king throws off his representation of the sacred kingly office, and a priest his representation of the sacred priestly office, and then represents the reverse of this. This explains why so many laws were laid down in the Jewish representative Church concerning the sacredness which was to be attached in particular to priests when ministering.
