6 Ed Esaù vide che Isacco avea benedetto Giacobbe, e l’avea mandato in Paddan-aram, acciocchè di là si prendesse moglie; e che, benedicendolo, gli avea vietato e detto: Non prender moglie delle figliuole di Canaan;

To many Protestant and Evangelical Italians, the Bibles translated by Giovanni Diodati are an important part of their history. Diodati’s first Italian Bible edition was printed in 1607, and his second in 1641. He died in 1649. Throughout the 1800s two editions of Diodati’s text were printed by the British Foreign Bible Society. This is the more recent 1894 edition, translated by Claudiana.

3729. And he called the name of that place Bethel. That this signifies the quality of the state, is evident from the signification of “name” and of “calling a name,” as being the quality (n. 144, 145, 1754, 1896, 2009, 2724, 3006, 3421); and from the signification of “place,” as being state (n. 2625, 2837, 3356, 3387). The quality of the state is that which is signified by “Bethel.” In the original tongue “Bethel” means the “house of God;” and that this is good in the ultimate of order, may be seen above (n. 3720).
