6946. 'And Jehovah said to him' means foresight of what they were going to be like if they did not possess faith. This is clear from the meaning of 'saying', when used in reference to Jehovah or the Lord, as foresight, dealt with in 5361. The fact that it is foresight of what they were going to be like if they did not possess faith is evident from the three signs described in what follows; for in the internal sense those signs represent what their state would be if they were without belief.
