1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of Jehovah.

Verse 1. When man has passed through a full course of temptations, succeeded by a new state of spiritual life, after having been in the bondage of selfishness and worldiness; when there is with him a conjunction of truth with goodness in the celestial state; and when, consequently, in him, faith and charity are conjoined; then his permanent character, according to the quality of his good from the Lord, begins to be fully formed.
