1
And the days of David came··near that he should··die; and he commanded Solomon his son, saying,

I▵ go◦ in the way of all the earth; so be· thou ·firm, and be a man◦.
3
And keep the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk◦ in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments and His judgments, and His testimonies, as◦ is written in the law of Moses, so··that thou mayest have··intelligence in all that thou doest, and wherever thou turnest◦ thyself,

so··that Jehovah may raise··up His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons keep their way, to walk◦ before me in truth, with all their heart and with all their soul, saying, There shall not be cut··off for thee a man◦ from on the throne of Israel.

And also thou◦ knowest what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders◦ of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, and set the blood of war in peace, and put◦ the blood of war upon his girdle, which was on◦ his loins, and on◦ his pair··of··shoes that was on◦ his feet.

And do thou according to thy wisdom, and let not his gray··hairs go··down in peace to the underworld.

But do mercy to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those that eat at thy table; for thus◦ they came··near unto▵ me when I ran··away from before Absalom thy brother.
8
And, behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Baḥurim, and he◦ reviled me with a reviling that was··grievous in the day of my going to Mahanaim; but he◦ came··down to meet me at the Jordan, and I promised to him by Jehovah, saying, I will· not▫ ·put· thee ·to··death with the sword.

And now, hold· him not ·innocent, for thou art a wise man◦; and thou◦ wilt know what thou shalt do unto him, and thou shalt bring··down his gray··hairs with blood to the underworld.

And David lay··down with his fathers; and was buried in the city of David.
11
And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years. In Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.
12
And Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established exceedingly.
13
And Adonijah◦ the son of Haggith came to▵ Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou◦ in peace? And he said, In peace.
14
And he said, I have◦ a word for◦ thee. And she said, Speak.
15
And he said, Thou◦ knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me to be··king; and the kingdom has turned··around and has become my brother’s; for from Jehovah it was his.
16
And now I▵ ask one asking of thee; turn· not ·back my face. And she said to▵ him, Speak.
17
And he said, Say it, I pray◦, to Solomon the king, for he will not turn··back thy face, and he will give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.
18
And Bathsheba said, Well; I▵ will speak for▵ thee to▵ the king.
19
And Bathsheba came··in unto▵ King Solomon to speak unto him concerning Adonijah◦. And the king rose··up to meet her, and bowed··down to her; and he sat on his throne, and he set a throne for the mother of the king; and she sat at his right··hand.
20
And she said, I▵ ask one small asking of thee; do not turn··back my face. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, for I will not turn··back thy face.
21
And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah◦ thy brother, to wife.
22
And King Solomon answered and said unto his mother; And why dost thou◦ ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah◦? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he◦ is my elder◦ brother; even for him and for Abiathar the priest and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

And King Solomon promised by Jehovah, saying, God do thus to me and more also*, for Adonijah◦ has spoken this word against his own soul.
24
And now, as Jehovah lives, who has established me, and caused me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house as◦ He spoke, for this day shall Adonijah◦ be··put··to··death.
25
And King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah◦ the son of Jehoiada; and he fell··upon him and he died.
26
And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Go to Anathoth, unto thy fields; for thou◦ art a man◦ of death; but I will· not ·put· thee ·to··death on◦ this day, for thou didst bear the ark of the Lord Jehovih* before David my father, and because◦ thou wast afflicted in all wherein◦ my father was afflicted.

And Solomon drove··out Abiathar from being a priest unto Jehovah, that he might fulfill the word of Jehovah which He spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.
28
And the report came to◦ Joab; for Joab had inclined after Adonijah, though he inclined not after Absalom; and Joab fled unto▵ the Tabernacle of Jehovah, and took··hold of the horns of the altar.
29
And it was··told King Solomon, Joab has fled unto▵ the Tabernacle of Jehovah; behold he is beside the altar. And Solomon sent Benaiah◦ the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall··upon him;
30
and Benaiah◦ came into▵ the Tabernacle of Jehovah, and said unto▵ him, Thus says the king, Come··out. And he said, No, for I will die here. And Benaiah◦ returned the king word, saying, Thus spoke Joab and thus he answered me.
31
And the king said to him, Do as◦ he has spoken, and fall··upon him and bury him; and thou wilt turn··aside the blood which Joab shed without··cause, from upon me and from upon the house of my father.
32
And Jehovah will return his blood upon his own head, who fell··upon two men◦ more just and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David knew not; Abner the son of Ner, the commander◦ of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, the commander◦ of the army of Judah.
33
And their blood shall return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed to eternity: but unto David, and unto his seed, and unto his house and unto his throne, shall there be peace even··to eternity from Jehovah.
34
And Benaiah◦ the son of Jehoiada went··up, and fell··upon him, and put· him ·to··death; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
35
And the king put◦ Benaiah◦, the son of Jehoiada, in· his ·stead over the army; and Zadok the priest did the king put◦ instead··of Abiathar.
36
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and do not go··forth thence, hither▵ and thither▵.
37
And it shall be on the day thou’ goest··out and crossest··over the brook Kidron, knowing thou shalt know that dying thou shalt··die, thy blood shall be on thine own head.
38
And Shimei said unto the king, Thy word is good; as◦ my lord the king has spoken, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
39
And it was, at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran··away unto▵ Achish, son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.
40
And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to▵ Achish to seek his servants; and Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.
41
And it was··told Solomon that Shimei had gone◦ from Jerusalem to Gath, and was returned.
42
And the king sent, and called for Shimei, and said unto▵ him, Did I not promise thee by Jehovah, and testify against◦ thee, saying, In the day that thou goest··out and walkest hither▵ and thither▵, knowing thou shalt know that dying thou shalt··die? And thou didst say to▵ me, The word that I have heard is good.
43
Wherefore then hast thou not kept what was sworn by Jehovah, and the commandment that I commanded thee.
44
And the king said to▵ Shimei, Thou◦ knowest all the evil which thy heart knows, that thou didst to David my father; and Jehovah shall return thine evil upon thine own head.
45
But King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before Jehovah even··to eternity.
46
And the king commanded Benaiah◦ the son of Jehoiada; and he went··out, and fell··upon him and he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
