1 И сказалъ Іегова Моисею: еще одну казнь Я наведу на Фараона и на Египтянъ; послј того онъ отпуститъ васъ отсюда. Когда же онъ будетъ отпускать, то съ поспјшностію будетъ гнать всјхъ васъ отсюда.

2 Внуши народу, чтобы каждый у ближняго своего, и каждая женщина у ближней своей выпросили вещей серебряныхъ и вещей золотыхъ.

3 Іегова далъ благодать народу въ очахъ Египтянъ; да и Моисей былъ весьма великъ въ землј Египетской, въ глазахъ рабовъ Фараоновыхъ, и въ глазахъ народа.

4 И сказалъ Моисей: такъ говоритъ Іегова: въ полночь Я пройду посреди Египта.

5 И умретъ всякій первенецъ въ землј Египетской, отъ первенца Фараона, который сидитъ на престолј своемъ, до первенца рабы, которая при жерновахъ, и все первородное изъ скота.

6 И будетъ по всей землј Египетской великій вопль, какого не бывало, и какого не будетъ болје.

7 Напротивъ у всјхъ сыновъ Израилевыхъ ни на человјка, ни на скотъ не пошевелитъ песъ языкомъ своимъ, дабы вы знали, какое Іегова дјлаетъ раздјленіе между Египтянами и между Израильтянами.

8 Тогда придутъ всј рабы твои сіи ко мнј, и поклонятся мнј, говоря: выйди ты и весь народъ, который тебј послјдуетъ. Послј чего я и выйду. И вышелъ Моисей отъ Фараона съ гнјвнымъ лицемъ.

9 И сказалъ Іегова Моисею: не послушаетъ васъ Фараонъ, и такимъ образомъ умножатся чудеса Мои въ землј Египетской.

10 Моисей и Ааронъ сдјлали всј сіи чудеса предъ Фараоеомъ. Іегова ожесточилъ сердце Фараона, и онъ не отпустилъ сыновъ Израилевыхъ изъ земли своей.

7791. 'And he went out from Pharaoh in wrath and anger' means a violent breaking off of the presence of God's truth from those who are to be damned. This is clear from the meaning of 'going out' as departing, at this point a violent breaking off since the words 'in wrath and anger' are used (in the end also, once damnation is reached, a violent breaking off takes place, for when people begin to feel a loathing of God's truth, also to fear it, and at length to feel horror at its presence, they break away from it violently); from the representation of 'Moses' as God's truth, dealt with often; from the representation of 'Pharaoh' as the ones who molested those who belonged to the spiritual Church, also dealt with often, but at this point those who are to be damned, damnation being meant by the declaration that the firstborn were going to be killed, 7778; and from the meaning of 'wrath and anger' as antagonism and loathing or aversion, dealt with in 3614, 5034, 5798. But when those feelings are attributed to the Divine, as they are here to Divine Truth, represented by 'Moses', it does not mean that the Divine turns away in aversion but that those immersed in evil do so, 5798. 'Wrath' is used in reference to falsity and 'anger' to evil, 3614.

4468. 'And we will be one people' means being joined together in doctrine. This is clear from the meaning of 'people' as the truth of the Church, and therefore doctrine, 1259, 1260, 3295, 3581. 'Being one people' accordingly means being joined together through doctrine. There are two things which join members of the Church together - life and doctrine. When life joins them together doctrine does not separate them, but if doctrine alone joins them together, as happens within the Church at the present day, they separate themselves from one another and form as many Churches as there are varieties of doctrine, even though doctrine exists for the sake of life, and life ensues from doctrine. Their separation from one another if doctrine alone joins them together is evident from the fact that a person who subscribes to one doctrine condemns him who subscribes to another, sometimes to hell. But doctrine does not separate people if life joins them together. This is evident from the fact that a person who leads a good life does not condemn another because he has a feeling about something different from his own but leaves it be as a matter of the other's faith and conscience. And this is an attitude which he adopts even towards those outside the Church, for he says in his heart that ignorance cannot condemn any of them, provided that they lead lives of innocence and mutual love, as young children do, who also, if they die, are in ignorance.
