In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia the word was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the word was truth, and concerning a great army; and he understood the word, and had◦ understanding in the vision◦.

In those◦ days I◦, Daniel, was mourning three weeks.
3
I ate not the bread of desires, and flesh and wine came not to▵ my mouth, and anointing◦ I anointed◦ not myself, until three weeks of days were fulfilled.
4
And in the twenty and fourth day of the first month, and I◦ was by◦ the hand of the great river, it◦ is, the Hiddekel,
5
and I lifted··up my eyes, and saw, and behold a certain◦ man◦ clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with the best··gold of Uphaz.
6
And his body was as the tarshish*, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire, and his arms and his feet as the aspect of burnished bronze, and the voice of his words as the voice of a crowd.

And I◦, Daniel, alone saw the vision◦, and the men◦ who were with me saw not the vision◦; indeed a great fright fell upon them, so that they ran··away to hide··themselves.
8
And I◦ was··left alone, and saw this great vision◦, and there was··left no◦ power in me; and my majesty was turned against me to corruption, and I retained no◦ power.
9
But heard I the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, then I◦ was··in··a··deep··sleep on my face, and my face toward the earth.

And, behold, a hand touched me, which swayed me onto◦ my knees and the palms of my hands.

And he said to▵ me, O Daniel, a man◦ desired, understand the words that I▵ speak unto▵ thee, and stand by◦, standing thyself up; for now am I sent to▵ thee. And when he had spoken this word with me, I stood trembling◦.

And said he to▵ me, Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that thou didst give thy heart to understand, and to afflict thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I◦ have come because of thy words.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing in··front··of me twenty and one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the first princes, came to help me; and I◦ remained there beside the kings of Persia.
14
And I come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the last days; for yet the vision is for many days.
15
And when he had spoken these words with me, I put◦ my faces toward the earth, and I was··dumb.
16
And, behold, one as the likeness of the sons of man touched on my lips; and I opened my mouth and spoke, and said to▵ him who stood in··front··of me, O my lord, by the vision◦, my throes are turned on me, and I have not retained power.
17
And how◦ is· the servant of this my lord ·able to speak with this my lord? And as for me◦, from now on there stands no◦ power in me, neither is there breath left in me.
18
And there came again and touched me one like◦ the appearance of man, and he strengthened me,
19
and said, O man◦ desired, fear not; peace be unto thee; be··firm, yea▵ be··firm. And when◦ he had spoken with me, I was made··firm, and said, Let my lord speak, for thou hast made· me ·firm.
20
And he said, Knowest thou why I come to▵ thee? And now I will return to fight with the prince of Persia, and when I◦ am gone··out, behold, the prince of Javan* shall come.
21
Indeed I will tell thee that which is inscribed in the writing of truth; and there is not◦ one holding··firmly with me upon these, except▫ Michael your prince.
