'A covering of precious stones,' as in Ezekiel 28:13, signifies the truths of intelligence. 'Precious stones,' in application to the Word, symbolize the Divine truth of the Word in its literal sense which the Divine truth in its spiritual sense shines through. 'Chrysoprasus, sapphire, and diamond' denote celestial love of truth. 'Emerald' signifies the sphere of divine love and wisdom.

9862. 'A span the length of it, and a span the breadth of it' means equally in respect of good and in respect of truth. This is clear from the meaning of 'the length' as good, dealt with in 1613, 9487; and from the meaning of 'the breadth' as truth, dealt with in 1613, 3433, 3434, 4482, 9487. Equally in respect of both these is meant by the length and the breadth, that they were equal.
