The Parable of the Yeast

By Junchol Lee

Ut pergas pasco dum audis, audi in fenestra nova.

In Matthew, there are a number of teachings that begin with "the kingdom of heaven is like ..." In 13:33, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven with "yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened." According to Swedenborg, this very short and simple parable contains a concise summary regarding the entire process of our regeneration, of our being "born again." The focus of the talk on Sunday will be on the meaning of "yeast," "woman," "three," "flour" and "leavened."
