Samuel 5

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought· it ·in from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and placed it beside Dagon.

And the Ashdodites got··up··early on the morrow, and, behold, Dagon was fallen on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon and returned him to his place.

And they got··up··early on the morrow morning, and, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and the two palms of his hands were cut··off upon the threshold; only Dagon* was··left of him.

Therefore the priests of Dagon, and all who come··into the house of Dagon, tread not on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod until this day.

And the hand of Jehovah was··heavy to the Ashdodites, and He desolated them, and smote them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and her borders.

And the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, and said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not dwell with us; for His hand is··hard on us, and on Dagon our God.

And they sent and gathered all the satraps* of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do to the ark of the God of Israel? And they said, Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought··around unto Gath. And they brought··around the ark of the God of Israel.

And it was, after they had brought· it ·about, that the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great upset; and He smote the men of the city, from small even··to great, and hemorrhoids broke··out with them.

And they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it was, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have turned··around the ark of the God of Israel to put··to··death me* and my people.

And they sent and gathered all the satraps of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its own place, that it may· not ·put· me ·to··death and my people; for there was a deadly upset in all the city; the hand of God was· very ·heavy there.

And the men that died not were smitten with hemorrhoids; and the outcry of the city went··up to the heavens.
