1
The word which was to▵ Jeremiah◦ from◦ Jehovah in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah◦ the king of Judah, saying,

Walk unto▵ the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of Jehovah, into▵ one of the rooms, and give· them wine ·to··drink◦.
3
And I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah◦, the son of Habaziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and all the house of the Rechabites;
4
and I brought· them ·into the house of Jehovah, into▵ the room of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah◦, a man◦ of God, which was beside the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah◦ the son of Shallum, the keeper of the doorway;
5
and I put◦ before the sons of the house of the Rechabites goblets full of wine, and cups, and I said unto▵ them, Drink ye wine.

But they said, We will not drink wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, You◦ shall not drink wine, nor◦ shall your sons even··to eternity:
7
neither shall you build a house, nor sow seed, nor plant a vineyard, nor have◦ any vineyard; but◦ you shall dwell··in tents all your days; so··that you may··live many days upon the faces of the ground where you◦ be sojourners.
8
And we have obeyed the voice of Jehonadab the son of Rechab, our father in all that he has commanded us, not▵ to drink wine all our days, we◦, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
9
nor▵ to build houses for us to dwell··in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:
10
but we have dwelt··in tabernacles, and have hearkened, and done according··to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
11
But it was, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came··up into▵ the land, that we said, Come, and let us go··into Jerusalem from the faces of the host of the Chaldeans, and from the faces of the host of Syria; and we will dwell··in Jerusalem.

And the word of Jehovah was to▵ Jeremiah◦, saying,

Thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel: Go◦ and say to the men◦ of Judah and to those who dwell··in Jerusalem, Will you not receive◦ discipline to hearken to▵ My words? says◦ Jehovah.

The words of Jehonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons to not▵ drink wine, are performed◦; and they drink not even··to this day, for they hear the commandment of their father; but I▵ have spoken to▵ you, getting··up··early and speaking, and you hearkened not unto▵ Me.

And I have sent unto▵ you all My servants the prophets, getting··up··early and sending them, saying, Return ye now◦ each··man◦ from his evil way, and make· your actions ·better, and go not after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell on the ground which I have given to you and to your fathers; but you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto▵ Me.

Because◦ the sons of Jehonadab the son of Rechab have performed◦ the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people have not hearkened to▵ Me:
17
therefore thus says Jehovah God of Armies, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring to▵ Judah and to▵ all the inhabitants◦ of Jerusalem all the evil that I have spoken against them; because I have spoken to▵ them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

And Jeremiah◦ said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel; Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jehonadab your father, and kept all his commandments, and done according··to all that he has commanded you;
19
therefore thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel; there shall not be cut··off a man◦ from Jonadab the son of Rechab to stand before Me all the days.
