Jeremiah 46

¹ That which hath been the wordthe word of JehovahJehovah unto JeremiahJeremiah the prophetprophet concerning the nationsnations,

² For EgyptEgypt, concerning the forceforce of Pharaoh-Necho king of EgyptEgypt, that hath been by the riverriver PhratPhrat, in Carchemish, that Nebuchadrezzar king of BabylonBabylon hath smittensmitten, in the fourthfourth year of JehoiakimJehoiakim sonson of Josiah king of JudahJudah:

³ `Set ye in array shieldshield and buckler, And draw nighnigh to battlebattle.

⁴ Gird the horseshorses, and go upgo up, ye horsemenhorsemen, And station yourselves with helmets, Polish the javelins, put onput on the coats of mail.

⁵ Wherefore have I seenseen them dismayed -- They are turnedturned backward, And their mighty onesmighty ones are beaten down, And [to] a refuge they have fledfled, and not turnedturned the face? Fear [is] round about -- an affirmation of JehovahJehovah.

⁶ The swift do not fleeflee, nor do the mightymighty escape, NorthwardNorthward, by the sideside of the riverriver PhratPhrat, They have stumbledstumbled and fallenfallen.

⁷ Who is this? as a floodflood he cometh up, As riversrivers do his waters shake themselves!

⁸ EgyptEgypt, as a floodflood cometh up, And as riversrivers the waters shake themselves. And he saithsaith, I go upgo up; I covercover the landland, I destroy the citycity and the inhabitantsthe inhabitants in it.

⁹ Go upGo up, ye horseshorses; and boast yourselves, ye chariots, And go forth, ye mightymighty, Cush and PhutPhut handling the shieldshield, And Lud handling -- treading the bowbow.

¹⁰ And that dayday [is] to the LordLord Jehovah of HostsJehovah of Hosts A day ofday of vengeancevengeance, To be avengedavenged of His adversariesadversaries, And the swordsword hath devoureddevoured, and been satisfiedsatisfied, And it hath been watered from their bloodblood, For a sacrifice [is] to the LordLord Jehovah of HostsJehovah of Hosts, In the landland of the northnorth, by the riverriver PhratPhrat.

¹¹ Go upGo up to GileadGilead, and take balmbalm, O virgin daughter of EgyptEgypt, In vainIn vain thou hast multiplied medicinesmedicines, Healing there is none for thee.

¹² NationsNations have heardheard of thy shameshame, And thy cry hath filledfilled the landland, For the mightymighty on the mightymighty did stumblestumble, Together they have fallenfallen -- bothboth of them!'

¹³ The wordThe word that JehovahJehovah hath spokenspoken unto JeremiahJeremiah the prophetprophet concerning the comingcoming in of Nebuchadrezzar king of BabylonBabylon, to smitesmite the landland of EgyptEgypt:

¹⁴ `DeclareDeclare ye in EgyptEgypt, and sound in Migdol, Yea, sound in NophNoph, and in Tahpanhes saysay: Station thyself, yea, prepare for thee, For a swordsword hath devoureddevoured around thee,

¹⁵ Wherefore hath thy bull been swept away? He hath not stoodstood, because JehovahJehovah thrust him away.

¹⁶ He hath multiplied the stumblingstumbling, Yea one hath fallenfallen upon his neighbourneighbour, And they saysay: RiseRise, and we turn backback to our peoplepeople, And unto the landland of our birthbirth, Because of the oppressing swordsword.

¹⁷ They have cried there: PharaohPharaoh king of EgyptEgypt [is] a desolation, PassedPassed by hath the appointed time.

¹⁸ I live -- an affirmation of the King, Jehovah of HostsJehovah of Hosts [is] His namename, Surely as Tabor [is] among mountainsmountains, And as CarmelCarmel by the seasea -- he comethcometh in,

¹⁹ Goods for removalremoval make for thee, O inhabitant, daughter of EgyptEgypt, For NophNoph becometh a desolation, And hath been burnt up, without inhabitant.

²⁰ A heifer very fair [is] EgyptEgypt, Rending from the northnorth doth comecome into her.

²¹ Even her hiredhired ones in her midst [are] as calvescalves of the stallstall, For even they have turnedturned, They have fledfled together, they have not stoodstood, For the day ofday of their calamity hath comecome on them, The timetime of their inspection.

²² Its voicevoice as a serpentserpent goethgoeth on, For with a forceforce they gogo, And with axes they have comecome in to her, As hewers of treestrees.

²³ They have cut down her forestforest, An affirmation of JehovahJehovah -- for it is not searched, For they have been more than the grasshopper, And they have no numbering.

²⁴ Ashamed hath been the daughter of EgyptEgypt, She hath been givengiven into the handhand of the people of the northnorth.

²⁵ SaidSaid hath Jehovah of HostsJehovah of Hosts, GodGod of IsraelIsrael: Lo, I am seeingseeing after Amon of NoNo, And after PharaohPharaoh, and after EgyptEgypt, And after her godsgods, and after her kingskings, And after PharaohPharaoh, and after those trusting in him,

²⁶ And I have givengiven them into the handhand of those seekingseeking their life, And into the handhand of Nebuchadrezzar king of BabylonBabylon, And into the handhand of his servantsservants, And afterwards it is inhabited, As [in] days of olddays of old -- an affirmation of JehovahJehovah.

²⁷ And thou, thou dost not fearfear, my servantservant JacobJacob, Nor [art] thou dismayed, O IsraelIsrael, For lo, I am savingsaving thee from afar, And thy seedseed from the landland of their captivity, And JacobJacob hath turned backback, And hath been at rest, and been at ease, And there is none disturbing.

²⁸ Thou, thou dost not fearfear, My servantservant JacobJacob, An affirmation of JehovahJehovah -- for with thee I [am], For I make an end of all the nationsnations Whither I have driven thee, And of thee I do not make an end, And I have reproved thee in judgmentjudgment, And do not entirely acquit thee!'
