Psalms 35

1 Of David.
Strive··, O Jehovah, ·with those who strive··with me;
fight those who fight me.

2 Hold··firm the shield and buckler,
and rise··up in my help;

3 and unsheathe the spear, and shut the way of meeting those who pursue me;
say to my soul, I am thy salvation.

4 Let those be··ashamed and humiliated who seek my soul;
let those be turned··away backward and blush who think evil against me.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind,
and the angel of Jehovah thrusting them.

6 Let their way be darkness and flatteries,
and the angel of Jehovah pursuing them.

7 For without··cause have they concealed for me a ditch, their net,
without··cause have they dug for my soul.

8 Let vastation come··into him
when he knows not;
and let his net that he has concealed, capture himself;
with vastation let him fall in it.

9 And my soul shall rejoice in Jehovah;
it shall have··joy in His salvation;

10 all my bones shall say,
Jehovah, who is like Thee,
rescuing the afflicted one from him who is firmer than he,
and the afflicted and the needy one from him who robs him?

11 Violent witnesses rise··up;
they ask me of things that I know not.

12 They repay me evil instead of good,
a bereavement to my soul.

13 And I, when they were··sick,
made my clothing sackcloth;
I afflicted my soul with fasting,
and my prayer returned upon my bosom.

14 I walked··about as though he were a companion, as though a brother to me;
as he who mourns for a mother, in··black I bowed··down,

15 but in my limping they were··glad,
and they were gathered together;
the crippled were gathered together against me, and I knew not;
they did rend and were· not ·still:

16 with hypocrites, jesters at feasts*,
they gnashed· upon me ·with their teeth.

17 Lord, how··long wilt Thou see?
Turn··back my soul from their vastations, my only··one from the young··lions.

18 I will confess Thee in an assembly of many;
I will··praise Thee among a numerous people.

19 Let not those who are wrongfully* my enemies, be··glad over me;
they who hate me without· a ·cause wink the eye.

20 For they speak not peace;
but against those who are at··repose in the land they think words of deceit.

21 And they enlarged their mouth against me;
they said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen!

22 Thou hast seen, O Jehovah; be· not ·silent;
O Lord, be· not ·far from me.

23 Stir Thyself, and awake to my judgment,
to my plea, my God and my Lord.

24 Judge me, O Jehovah my God, according··to Thy justice;
and let them not be··glad over me.

25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha, our soul.
Let them not say, We have swallowed· him ·up.

26 Let those be··ashamed and be made to blush together, who are glad when evil befalls me;
let those be clothed··with shame and humiliation who magnify themselves against me.

27 Let those sing··aloud, and be··glad,
who delight··in my justice;
and let those say continually, let Jehovah become··great,
who delights··in the peace of His servant.

28 And my tongue shall meditate··on Thy justice,
on Thy praise all the day.
