28 Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

Verse 28. Lest the natural mind should despair and the thought should arise therein that the soul cannot be brought to those blessed states which are promised in the Word to those who are regenerate, and that the Lord is against or does not care for the regenerate; and that if the dictates of the Word to the spiritual man are followed, the happiness of the whole man will be destroyed by his being brought to a miserable condition without any delight.
