1 斥责雅各和犹大的罪“以法莲,整追赶东,增添虚谎和强暴。他们与亚述结盟,又给埃及。”(本节在《马索拉抄本》为12:2)

2 耶和华犹大争辩;他必照雅各所行的惩罚他,按他所作的报应他。

3 他在母腹中抓住他哥哥的脚跟,壮年的时候又与角力。

4 他与天使角力,并且得胜;他哀哭,向他求恩。他在伯特利遇见神,神在那里对他说话

5 耶和华是万军的耶和华是他的名号。

6 所以你要靠着你的归回,谨守忠信和公平,常常等候你的

7 斥责以法莲的罪行及其重罚以色列是个商人,里拿着诡诈的天平,喜欺压别人。

8 以法莲:“我成了富翁,我为自己发了财;在我所有的收益中,人不能出我有什么罪孽,可算为罪恶的。”

9 “自从你出埃及地以来,我就是耶和华你的;我必使你再在帐棚里,像在节日的日子一样,

10 我曾对先知说话,加添许多异象;又借先知比喻。

11 在基列仍有罪孽,他们实在是没有价值的。他们在吉甲献牛犊为祭,他们的祭坛好像田间犁沟中的石堆。”

12 从前雅各逃到亚兰地,以色列为得妻子而作工,为得妻子而替人放羊。

13 后来,耶和华借着一位先知以色列埃及领上来,也借着一位先知以色列得蒙看顾。

14 以法莲大大地惹了的烈怒,所以,他的把他流人血的罪归到他身上,把他当受的羞辱归给他。

367. 除了表明仁是信的“兄弟”,“田”表构成教义的一切外,没有必要引用圣言的类似经文来证实这些事. 人从信的性质或本质皆清楚可知,仁是信的“兄弟”. 二者的兄弟关系由以扫和雅各来代表,这也是他们争夺长子继承权和由此而来的领先地位的原因. 这种关系还以法勒斯与谢拉,即他玛通过犹大所得的儿子来代表(创世记 38:28-30),也涉及长子继承权的问题. 以法莲与玛拿西也代表这种关系(创世记 48:13,14),同样涉及长子继承权和由此而来的领先地位的问题,还有很多其它例子. 实际上,这二者,即信与仁都是教会的产物. 信被称为如该隐(本章第一节)一样的“一个人”,而仁则被称为一个“兄弟”(如在以赛亚书 19:2; 耶利米书 17:14等等). 信与仁的结合被称为“弟兄的盟约”(阿摩西书1:9).

雅各和以扫的含义类似于该隐和亚伯的含义,如刚才所说; 因此,雅各也很想取代他的哥哥以扫,这一点在何西阿书中显而易见:

祂必照雅各所行的惩罚他,按他所做的报应他; 他在腹中就想取代他兄弟. (何西阿书 12:2-3)

不过,以扫, 或以扫所代表的仁,最终却并未掌权,这可从他们的父亲以撒的预言看出来:

你必依靠刀剑度日,又必侍奉你的兄弟; 到你强盛的时候,必从你颈项上挣开他的轭. (创世记 27:40)

或同样的意思,以扫代表非犹太人或新教会,雅各代表犹太人教会. 这就是为何经上频繁提及犹太人要视外邦人为兄弟的原因. 在外邦人或初期教会,出于仁,所有人都被称作兄弟,主称那些听闻圣言并照之而行者为兄弟(路加福音 8:21). 听者,有信; 行者,有仁. 但听闻或有信,却不行出来或没有仁的人,并不是兄弟,主将他们比作愚蠢人(马太福音 7:24,26).
