1 ראיתי את־אדני נצב על־המזבח ויאמר הך הכפתור וירעשו הספים ובצעם בראש כלם ואחריתם בחרב אהרג לא־ינוס להם נס ולא־ימלט להם פליט׃

2 אם־יחתרו בשאול משם ידי תקחם ואם־יעלו השמים משם אורידם׃

3 ואם־יחבאו בראש הכרמל משם אחפש ולקחתים ואם־יסתרו מנגד עיני בקרקע הים משם אצוה את־הנחש ונשכם׃

4 ואם־ילכו בשבי לפני איביהם משם אצוה את־החרב והרגתם ושמתי עיני עליהם לרעה ולא לטובה׃

5 ואדני יהוה הצבאות הנוגע בארץ ותמוג ואבלו כל־יושבי בה ועלתה כיאר כלה ושקעה כיאר מצרים׃

6 הבונה בשמים [כ= מעלותו] [ק= מעלותיו] ואגדתו על־ארץ יסדה הקרא למי־הים וישפכם על־פני הארץ יהוה שמו׃

7 הלוא כבני כשיים אתם לי בני ישראל נאם־יהוה הלוא את־ישראל העליתי מארץ מצרים ופלשתיים מכפתור וארם מקיר׃

8 הנה עיני אדני יהוה בממלכה החטאה והשמדתי אתה מעל פני האדמה אפס כי לא השמיד אשמיד את־בית יעקב נאם־יהוה׃

9 כי־הנה אנכי מצוה והנעותי בכל־הגוים את־בית ישראל כאשר ינוע בכברה ולא־יפול צרור ארץ׃

10 בחרב ימותו כל חטאי עמי האמרים לא־תגיש ותקדים בעדינו הרעה׃

11 ביום ההוא אקים את־סכת דויד הנפלת וגדרתי את־פרציהן והרסתיו אקים ובניתיה כימי עולם׃

12 למען יירשו את־שארית אדום וכל־הגוים אשר־נקרא שמי עליהם נאם־יהוה עשה זאת׃ ף

13 הנה ימים באים נאם־יהוה ונגש חורש בקצר ודרך ענבים במשך הזרע והטיפו ההרים עסיס וכל־הגבעות תתמוגגנה׃

14 ושבתי את־שבות עמי ישראל ובנו ערים נשמות וישבו ונטעו כרמים ושתו את־יינם ועשו גנות ואכלו את־פריהם׃

15 ונטעתים על־אדמתם ולא ינתשו עוד מעל אדמתם אשר נתתי להם אמר יהוה אלהיך׃

404. Verse 14. And the heaven departed as a book rolled up, signifies that the spiritual man became closed up. This is evident from the signification of "heaven," as being the church in general and in particular; for the church is the heaven of the Lord on the earth; moreover, the church makes one with heaven by conjunction; therefore when "heaven and earth" are mentioned in the Word, the church internal and external is meant, for the internal of the men of the church is heaven with them, and their external is the world with them; and as "heaven and earth" signify the church internal and external so they signify the internal and external man, or the spiritual and the natural man; for as man in whom is the good of love and of faith is a church, so the church, in general exists from the men in whom the church is. This makes clear why it is that "heaven" here means the internal or spiritual man. It is said "the spiritual man," by which is meant the spiritual mind, which is the higher or interior mind of man, while the lower or exterior mind is called the natural man. The above is evident also from the signification of "departed as a book rolled up," as meaning that it became closed up; for the spiritual mind, which is, as was said, the higher or interior mind with man, is opened by truths applied to life, thus by goods, but it is closed up by falsities applied to life, thus by evils; and the closing up is as the rolling up of the scroll of a book. That this is so was made very clear by the appearances in the spiritual world when the Last Judgment was accomplished; for the mountains and the hills there then appeared sometimes to be rolled up as the scroll of a book is rolled up, and those that were upon them were then rolled down into hell. The cause of this appearance was this: that the interiors of their minds, through which somewhat of light from heaven had before flowed in, were then closed up. What takes place in general with many, takes place with everyone in particular of a like character, for in the spiritual world such as the general is, such is the particular (See in the work on Heaven and Hell 73). By "book" is meant a scroll, because in ancient times there were no types and thus no books like those at the present day, but there were scrolls of parchments; so "books" in Revelation mean scrolls, and "heaven departed as a book rolled up" means as a scroll rolled up; the same as in Isaiah:

All the host of the heavens shall waste away, and the heavens shall be rolled up as a book (Isaiah 34:4).

341. That innocence is a receptacle of all things of heaven, and thus the innocence of children is a plane for all affections for good and truth, can be seen from what has been shown above (276-283) in regard to the innocence of angels in heaven, namely, that innocence is a willingness to be led by the Lord and not by oneself; consequently so far as a man is in innocence he is separated from what is his own, and so far as one is separated from what is his own he is in what is the Lord's own. The Lord's own is what is called His righteousness and merit. But the innocence of children is not genuine innocence, because as yet it is without wisdom. Genuine innocence is wisdom, since so far as any one is wise he loves to be led by the Lord; or what is the same, so far as any one is led by the Lord he is wise.

[2] Therefore children are led from the external innocence in which they are at the beginning, and which is called the innocence of childhood, to internal innocence, which is the innocence of wisdom. This innocence is the end that directs all their instruction and progress; and therefore when they have attained to the innocence of wisdom, the innocence of childhood, which in the meanwhile has served them as a plane, is joined to them.

[3] The innocence of children has been represented to me as a wooden sort of thing, almost devoid of life, which becomes vivified as they are perfected by knowledges of truth and affections for good. Afterwards genuine innocence was represented by a most beautiful child, naked and full of life; for the really innocent, who are in the inmost heaven and thus nearest to the Lord, always appear before the eyes of other angels as little children, and some of them naked; for innocence is represented by nakedness unaccompanied by shame, as is said of the first man and his wife in Paradise (Genesis 2:25); so when their state of innocence perished they were ashamed of their nakedness, and hid themselves (chap. 3: 7, 10, 11). In a word, the wiser the angels are the more innocent they are, and the more innocent they are the more they appear to themselves as little children. This is why in the Word "childhood" signifies innocence (see above, 278).
