¹ 第七年五月初十日，有以色列的幾個長老來求問耶和華，坐在我面前。

² 耶和華的話臨到我說：

³ 人子啊，你要告訴以色列的長老說，主耶和華如此說：你們來是求問我麼？主耶和華說：我指著我的永生起誓，我必不被你們求問。

⁴ 人子啊，你要審問審問他們麼？你當使他們知道他們列祖那些可憎的事，

⁵ 對他們說，主耶和華如此說：當日我揀選以色列，向雅各家的後裔起誓，在埃及地將自己向他們顯現，說：我是耶和華─你們的神。

⁶ 那日我向他們起誓，必領他們出埃及地，到我為他們察看的流奶與蜜之地；那地在萬國中是有榮耀的。

⁷ 我對他們說，你們各人要拋棄眼所喜愛那可憎之物，不可因埃及的偶像玷污自己。我是耶和華─你們的神。

⁸ 他們卻悖逆我，不肯聽從我，不拋棄他們眼所喜愛那可憎之物，不離棄埃及的偶像。我就說，我要將我的忿怒傾在他們身上，在埃及地向他們成就我怒中所定的。

⁹ 我卻為我名的緣故沒有這樣行，免得我名在他們所住的列國人眼前被褻瀆；我領他們出埃及地，在這列國人的眼前將自己向他們顯現。

¹⁰ 這樣，我就使他們出埃及地，領他們到曠野，

¹¹ 將我的律例賜給他們，將我的典章指示他們；人若遵行就必因此活著。

¹² 又將我的安息日賜給他們，好在我與他們中間為證據，使他們知道我─耶和華是叫他們成為聖的。

¹³ 以色列家卻在曠野悖逆我，不順從我的律例，厭棄我的典章（人若遵行就必因此活著），大大干犯我的安息日。我就說，要在曠野將我的忿怒傾在他們身上，滅絕他們。

¹⁴ 我卻為我名的緣故，沒有這樣行，免得我的名在我領他們出埃及的列國人眼前被褻瀆。

¹⁵ 並且我在曠野向他們起誓，必不領他們進入我所賜給他們流奶與蜜之地（那地在萬國中是有榮耀的）；

¹⁶ 因為他們厭棄我的典章，不順從我的律例，干犯我的安息日，他們的心隨從自己的偶像。

¹⁷ 雖然如此，我眼仍顧惜他們，不毀滅他們，不在曠野將他們滅絕淨盡。

¹⁸ 我在曠野對他們的兒女說：不要遵行你們父親的律例，不要謹守他們的惡規，也不要因他們的偶像玷污自己。

¹⁹ 我是耶和華─你們的神，你們要順從我的律例，謹守遵行我的典章，

²⁰ 且以我的安息日為聖。這日在我與你們中間為證據，使你們知道我是耶和華─你們的神。

²¹ 只是他們的兒女悖逆我，不順從我的律例，也不謹守遵行我的典章（人若遵行就必因此活著），干犯我的安息日。我就說，要將我的忿怒傾在他們身上，在曠野向他們成就我怒中所定的。

²² 雖然如此，我卻為我名的緣故縮手沒有這樣行，免得我的名在我領他們出埃及的列國人眼前被褻瀆。

²³ 並且我在曠野向他們起誓，必將他們分散在列國，四散在列邦；

²⁴ 因為他們不遵行我的典章，竟厭棄我的律例，干犯我的安息日，眼目仰望他們父親的偶像。

²⁵ 我也任他們遵行不美的律例，謹守不能使人活著的惡規。

²⁶ 因他們將一切頭生的經火，我就任憑他們在這供獻的事上玷污自己，好叫他們淒涼，使他們知道我是耶和華。

²⁷ 人子啊，你要告訴以色列家說，主耶和華如此說：你們的列祖在得罪我的事上褻瀆我；

²⁸ 因為我領他們到了我起誓應許賜給他們的地，他們看見各高山、各茂密樹，就在那裡獻祭，奉上惹我發怒的供物，也在那裡焚燒馨香的祭牲，並澆上奠祭。

²⁹ 我就對他們說：你們所上的那高處叫甚麼呢？（那高處的名字叫巴麻直到今日。）

³⁰ 所以你要對以色列家說，主耶和華如此說：你們仍照你們列祖所行的玷污自己麼？仍照他們可憎的事行邪淫麼？

³¹ 你們奉上供物使你們兒子經火的時候，仍將一切偶像玷污自己，直到今日麼？以色列家啊，我豈被你們求問麼？主耶和華說：我指著我的永生起誓，我必不被你們求問。

³² 你們說：我們要像外邦人和列國的宗族一樣，去事奉木頭與石頭。你們所起的這心意萬不能成就。

³³ 主耶和華說：我指著我的永生起誓，我總要作王，用大能的手和伸出來的膀臂，並傾出來的忿怒，治理你們。

³⁴ 我必用大能的手和伸出來的膀臂，並傾出來的忿怒，將你們從萬民中領出來，從分散的列國內聚集你們。

³⁵ 我必帶你們到外邦人的曠野，在那裡當面刑罰你們。

³⁶ 我怎樣在埃及地的曠野刑罰你們的列祖，也必照樣刑罰你們。這是主耶和華說的。

³⁷ 我必使你們從杖下經過，使你們被約拘束。

³⁸ 我必從你們中間除淨叛逆和得罪我的人，將他們從所寄居的地方領出來，他們卻不得入以色列地。你們就知道我是耶和華。

³⁹ 以色列家啊，至於你們，主耶和華如此說：從此以後若不聽從我，就任憑你們去事奉偶像，只是不可再因你們的供物和偶像褻瀆我的聖名。

⁴⁰ 主耶和華說：在我的聖山，就是以色列高處的山，所有以色列的全家都要事奉我。我要在那裡悅納你們，向你們要供物和初熟的土產，並一切的聖物。

⁴¹ 我從萬民中領你們出來，從分散的列國內聚集你們，那時我必悅納你們好像馨香之祭，要在外邦人眼前在你們身上顯為聖。

⁴² 我領你們進入以色列地，就是我起誓應許賜給你們列祖之地，那時你們就知道我是耶和華。

⁴³ 你們在那裡要追念玷污自己的行動作為，又要因所做的一切惡事厭惡自己。

⁴⁴ 主耶和華說：以色列家啊，我為我名的緣故，不照著你們的惡行和你們的壞事待你們；你們就知道我是耶和華。

⁴⁵ 耶和華的話臨到我說：

⁴⁶ 人子啊，你要面向南方，向南滴下預言攻擊南方田野的樹林。

⁴⁷ 對南方的樹林說，要聽耶和華的話。主耶和華如此說：我必使火在你中間著起，燒滅你中間的一切青樹和枯樹，猛烈的火燄必不熄滅。從南到北，人的臉面都被燒焦。

⁴⁸ 凡有血氣的都必知道是我─耶和華使火著起，這火必不熄滅。

⁴⁹ 於是我說：哎！主耶和華啊，人都指著我說：他豈不是說比喻的麼？

¹ 這月二十四日，以色列人聚集禁食，身穿麻衣，頭蒙灰塵。

² 以色列人（人：原文是種類）就與一切外邦人離絕，站著承認自己的罪惡和列祖的罪孽。

³ 那日的四分之一站在自己的地方念耶和華─他們神的律法書，又四分之一認罪，敬拜耶和華─他們的神。

⁴ 耶書亞、巴尼、甲篾、示巴尼、布尼、示利比、巴尼、基拿尼站在利未人的臺上，大聲哀求耶和華─他們的神。

⁵ 利未人耶書亞、甲篾、巴尼、哈沙尼、示利比、荷第雅、示巴尼、毗他希雅說：你們要站起來稱頌耶和華─你們的神，永世無盡。耶和華啊，你榮耀之名是應當稱頌的！超乎一切稱頌和讚美。

⁶ 你，惟獨你是耶和華！你造了天和天上的天，並天上的萬象，地和地上的萬物，海和海中所有的；這一切都是你所保存的。天軍也都敬拜你。

⁷ 你是耶和華神，曾揀選亞伯蘭，領他出迦勒底的吾珥，給他改名叫亞伯拉罕。

⁸ 你見他在你面前心裡誠實，就與他立約，應許把迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、革迦撒人之地賜給他的後裔，且應驗了你的話，因為你是公義的。

⁹ 你曾看見我們列祖在埃及所受的困苦，垂聽他們在紅海邊的哀求，

¹⁰ 就施行神蹟奇事在法老和他一切臣僕，並他國中的眾民身上。你也得了名聲，正如今日一樣，因為你知道他們向我們列祖行事狂傲。

¹¹ 你又在我們列祖面前把海分開，使他們在海中行走乾地，將追趕他們的人拋在深海，如石頭拋在大水中；

¹² 並且白晝用雲柱引導他們，黑夜用火柱照亮他們當行的路。

¹³ 你也降臨在西乃山，從天上與他們說話，賜給他們正直的典章、真實的律法、美好的條例與誡命，

¹⁴ 又使他們知道你的安息聖日，並藉你僕人摩西傳給他們誡命、條例、律法。

¹⁵ 從天上賜下糧食充他們的飢，從磐石使水流出解他們的渴，又吩咐他們進去得你起誓應許賜給他們的地。

¹⁶ 但我們的列祖行事狂傲，硬著頸項不聽從你的誡命；

¹⁷ 不肯順從，也不記念你在他們中間所行的奇事，竟硬著頸項，居心背逆，自立首領，要回他們為奴之地。但你是樂意饒恕人，有恩典，有憐憫，不輕易發怒，有豐盛慈愛的神，並不丟棄他們。

¹⁸ 他們雖然鑄了一隻牛犢，彼此說這是領你出埃及的神，因而大大惹動你的怒氣；

¹⁹ 你還是大施憐憫，在曠野不丟棄他們。白晝，雲柱不離開他們，仍引導他們行路；黑夜，火柱也不離開他們，仍照亮他們當行的路。

²⁰ 你也賜下你良善的靈教訓他們；未嘗不賜嗎哪使他們糊口，並賜水解他們的渴。

²¹ 在曠野四十年，你養育他們，他們就一無所缺：衣服沒有穿破，腳也沒有腫。

²² 並且你將列國之地照分賜給他們，他們就得了西宏之地、希實本王之地，和巴珊王噩之地。

²³ 你也使他們的子孫多如天上的星，帶他們到你所應許他們列祖進入得為業之地。

²⁴ 這樣，他們進去得了那地，你在他們面前制伏那地的居民，就是迦南人；將迦南人和其君王，並那地的居民，都交在他們手裡，讓他們任意而待。

²⁵ 他們得了堅固的城邑、肥美的地土、充滿各樣美物的房屋、鑿成的水井、葡萄園、橄欖園，並許多果木樹。他們就吃而得飽，身體肥胖，因你的大恩，心中快樂。

²⁶ 然而，他們不順從，竟背叛你，將你的律法丟在背後，殺害那勸他們歸向你的眾先知，大大惹動你的怒氣。

²⁷ 所以你將他們交在敵人的手中，磨難他們。他們遭難的時候哀求你，你就從天上垂聽，照你的大憐憫賜給他們拯救者，救他們脫離敵人的手。

²⁸ 但他們得平安之後，又在你面前行惡，所以你丟棄他們在仇敵的手中，使仇敵轄制他們。然而他們轉回哀求你，你仍從天上垂聽，屢次照你的憐憫拯救他們，

²⁹ 又警戒他們，要使他們歸服你的律法。他們卻行事狂傲，不聽從你的誡命，干犯你的典章（人若遵行就必因此活著），扭轉肩頭，硬著頸項，不肯聽從。

³⁰ 但你多年寬容他們，又用你的靈藉眾先知勸戒他們，他們仍不聽從，所以你將他們交在列國之民的手中。

³¹ 然而你大發憐憫，不全然滅絕他們，也不丟棄他們；因為你是有恩典、有憐憫的神。

³² 我們的神啊，你是至大、至能、至可畏、守約施慈愛的神。我們的君王、首領、祭司、先知、列祖，和你的眾民，從亞述列王的時候直到今日所遭遇的苦難，現在求你不要以為小。

³³ 在一切臨到我們的事上，你卻是公義的；因你所行的是誠實，我們所做的是邪惡。

³⁴ 我們的君王、首領、祭司、列祖都不遵守你的律法，不聽從你的誡命和你警戒他們的話。

³⁵ 他們在本國裡沾你大恩的時候，在你所賜給他們這廣大肥美之地上不事奉你，也不轉離他們的惡行。

³⁶ 我們現今作了奴僕；至於你所賜給我們列祖享受其上的土產，並美物之地，看哪，我們在這地上作了奴僕！

³⁷ 這地許多出產歸了列王，就是你因我們的罪所派轄制我們的。他們任意轄制我們的身體和牲畜，我們遭了大難。

³⁸ 因這一切的事，我們立確實的約，寫在冊上。我們的首領、利未人，和祭司都簽了名。

⁴ The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, "Who will give us flesh to eat?

⁵ We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;

⁶ but now we have lost our appetite. There is nothing at all except this manna to look at."

⁷ The manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like the appearance of bdellium.

⁸ The people went around, gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it. Its taste was like the taste of fresh oil.

⁹ When the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

¹⁰ Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and the anger of Yahweh was kindled greatly; and Moses was displeased.

¹¹ Moses said to Yahweh, "Why have you treated with your servant so badly? Why haven't I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?

¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should tell me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers?'

¹³ Where could I get meat to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, 'give us meat, that we may eat.'

¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

¹⁵ If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and don't let me see my wretchedness."

¹⁶ Yahweh said to Moses, "Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

¹⁷ I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit which is on you, and will put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone.

¹⁸ "Say to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and you will eat flesh; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, "Who will give us flesh to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt." Therefore Yahweh will give you flesh, and you will eat.

¹⁹ You will not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days,

²⁰ but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because that you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, "Why did we come out of Egypt?"'"

²¹ Moses said, "The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, 'I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.'

²² Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?"

²³ Yahweh said to Moses, "Has Yahweh's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not."

²⁴ Moses went out, and told the people the words of Yahweh; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the Tent.

²⁵ Yahweh came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders: and it happened that when the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

²⁶ But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested on them; and they were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp.

²⁷ A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!"

²⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered, "My lord Moses, forbid them!"

²⁹ Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh's people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!"

³⁰ Moses went into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

³¹ A wind from Yahweh went out and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and a day's journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the earth.

³² The people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them all abroad for themselves around the camp.

³³ While the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of Yahweh was kindled against the people, and Yahweh struck the people with a very great plague.

³⁴ The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.
