Lamentations 3

א I am the mighty··man that has seen affliction by the scepter of His wrath.

א He has directed me, and walked me into darkness, but not into light.

א Surely against me is He turned··back; He turns His hand against me all the day.

ב He wore··down My flesh and my skin; He has broken my bones.

ב He has built against me, and encircled me with gall and weariness.

ב He has made me sit in darkness, as those who are dead to eternity.

ג He has fenced··in behind me and I go· not ·out. He has made· my bronze chains ·heavy.

ג Also when I cry and cry··out, He blocks out my prayer.

ג He has fenced··in my ways with hewn stone, He has turned· my trails ·upside··down.

ד He was unto me as a bear setting··an··ambush, and as a lion in hiding places.

ד He has turned··aside my ways, and pulled· me ·in··pieces; He has made me desolate.

ד He has bent His bow, and set· me ·up as a target for the arrow.

ה He has caused the sons of His quiver to come into my kidneys.

ה I was laughed··at by all my people; and by their music* all the day.

ה He has satiated me with bitternesses, He has soaked me with wormwood.

ו And He has ground··down my teeth with gravel, He has strewn me with ashes.

ו And Thou hast cast··off my soul from peace; I forgot goodness.

ו And I said, My victory has perished, and my hope from Jehovah:

ז remember my affliction and my being··dominated, for the wormwood and the gall.

ז Remembering my soul remembers, and is bowed··down within me.

ז This I return to my heart, therefore I have··hope.

ח It is of the mercies of Jehovah that we are not entirely consumed, for His compassions are not all··consumed.

ח They are new in the mornings; great is Thy faithfulness.

ח Jehovah is my part, says my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.

ט Jehovah is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul that inquires after Him.

ט It is good that a man should both hope and be still for the salvation of Jehovah.

ט It is good for a mighty··man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

י He sits alone and is··still, because He has carried it upon him.

י He puts his mouth in the dust; if so be there··is hope.

י He gives his jaw to him who smites him; he is satisfied with reproach.

כ For the Lord will not cast··off for eternity:

כ but though He makes··sorrowful, yet will He have··compassion according··to the multitude of His mercies.

כ For He does not afflict from His heart nor make· the sons of men ·sorrowful.

ל To crush under His feet all the bound ones of the earth,

ל to turn aside the judgment of a man before the face of the Most··High,

ל to subvert man in his strife, the Lord provides* not.

מ Who is this that says, and it comes··to··pass, if the Lord commands not?

מ Does not evil and good go··forth out··of the mouth of the Most··High?

מ What does a living man murmur about, a man over his sins?

נ Let us search our ways and search· them ·out, and turn··back to Jehovah.

נ Let us lift··up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

נ We have transgressed and have rebelled; Thou hast not pardoned.

ס Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us; Thou hast killed, Thou hast not pitied.

ס Thou hast covered Thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass··through.

ס Thou hast set us as as scraped and rejected among the people.

פ All our enemies have gaped with their mouths against us.

פ Dread and a chasm is upon us, the vastation and the breaking.

פ streams of waters go··down my eye on··account··of the breaking of the daughter of my people.

ע My eye flows··down, and is· not ·still, without failing,

ע until Jehovah look··down and see from the heavens.

ע My eye acts on my soul more than all the daughters of my city.

צ My enemies without··cause hunting did hunt me as a bird,

צ They have cut··away my life in the pit, and cast··down a stone on me.

צ Waters flowed··over on my head; then I said, I am severed.

ק I called··upon Thy name, O Jehovah, out··of the lower pit.

ק Thou hast heard my voice; hide not Thine ear to my respiration, to my outcry.

ק Thou camest··near in the day that I called··upon Thee; Thou didst say, Fear not.

ר O Lord, Thou hast pleaded the pleas of my soul; Thou hast redeemed my life.

ר O Jehovah, Thou hast seen my wrong; judge Thou my cause*.

ר Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their thoughts against me.

ש Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their thoughts against me;

ש the lips of those that rose··up, and their meditation against me all the day.

ש Look··on their sitting and their rising··up; I am their music*.

ת Return to them a recompense, O Jehovah, according··to the deed of their hands.

ת Give to them sorrow of heart, Thine oath unto them.

ת Persecute and blot· them ·out in anger from under the heavens of Jehovah.
