1
And it was, that the king sat in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest all around from all his enemies.
2
And the king said to▵ Nathan the prophet, See now◦, I▵ dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in the midst of curtains.
3
And Nathan said to▵ the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee.
4
And it was, in that◦ night, that the word of Jehovah was to▵ Nathan, saying,

Go and say unto▵ my servant, unto▵ David, Thus says Jehovah, Shalt thou◦ build Me a house to dwell in?
6
For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought··up the sons of Israel out of Egypt, and even◦ to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a habitation.
7
In every place that I have walked with all the sons of Israel, spoke I a word with◦ any one of the tribes◦ of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, Why have you not built a house for Me of cedar?
8
And now, thus thou shalt say to my servant David, Thus says Jehovah of Armies, I◦ have taken thee from the home, from behind the flock, to be a monarch over My people, over Israel.
9
And I was with thee, whithersoever thou wentest◦, and have cut··off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a great name as the name of the great that are in the earth.
10
And I will set up a place for my people, for Israel, and will plant him, and he will inhabit his place*, and not tremble any··more, neither shall the sons of perversity afflict him again as◦ in the beginning◦,
11
and as since the day that I commanded judges over my people Israel, and gave thee rest from all thine enemies. And Jehovah tells thee that Jehovah will make a house for thee.
12
When◦ thy days shall be fulfilled and thou shalt lie with◦ thy fathers, then I will raise··up thy seed after thee, which shall go··out from thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13
He◦ shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom even··to eternity.
14
I◦ will be to him for a father, and he◦ shall be to Me for a son; that when he commits··iniquity, then I will reprove him with the rod▵ of men◦, and with strokes▵ of the sons of man.
15
But My mercy shall not go··away from him, as◦ I caused it to go··away from Saul, whom I removed from before thee.
16
And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made faithful even··to eternity before thee; thy throne shall be established even··to eternity.
17
According··to all these words, and according··to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to▵ David.
18
And King David came and sat before Jehovah, and he said, Who am I▵, O Lord Jehovih*? and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me hitherto?
19
And this was· yet a ·small thing in Thine eyes, O Lord Jehovih, but Thou hast also spoken of▵ the house of Thy servant from far··off. And this is the law of man, O Lord Jehovih.
20
And what can David yet add to speak unto▵ Thee? But Thou◦ knowest Thy servant, O Lord Jehovih.
21
For Thy Word’s sake and according to Thy heart hast Thou done all these great things, to make· Thy servant ·to··know.
22
Therefore Thou art··great, O Jehovah God; for there is none as▵ Thou, and there is no God except Thee, according··to all that we have heard with our ears.
23
And who is as Thy people, as Israel, one nation on◦ the earth, whom God went◦ to ransom for a people for Himself, and to set for Himself a name, and to do a great thing for you and fearful things for Thy land, before Thy people, whom Thou didst ransom to Thee from Egypt of the nations, and its gods?
24
And Thou hast established to Thyself Thy people Israel, to be to Thee a people even··to eternity, and Thou◦, O Jehovah, Thou art become their God.
25
And now, O Jehovah God, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, raise· it ·up even··to eternity, and do as◦ Thou hast spoken.
26
And let Thy name be··magnified even··to eternity, saying, Jehovah of Armies is the God over Israel, and let the house of Thy servant David be established before Thee.
27
For Thou◦, O Jehovah of Armies, God of Israel, hast revealed to the ear of Thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house; therefore has Thy servant found his heart to pray this prayer unto▵ Thee.
28
And now, O Lord Jehovih, Thou◦ art God Himself◦, and Thy words be truth, and Thou hast spoken this goodness unto▵ Thy servant.
29
And now, be··content to bless the house of Thy servant, that it may be to eternity before Thee; for Thou◦, O Lord Jehovih, hast spoken; and with Thy blessings let the house of Thy servant be blessed to eternity.
