1
And Jehoram the son of Ahab became··king over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, only not as◦ his father, and as his mother; and he removed the statue of Baal that his father had made.

Only he stuck to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin; he turned· not ·aside from it.
4
And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-farmer; and he returned to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs▫ and a hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

And it was, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab broke··away··from the king of Israel.

And King Jehoram went··out from Samaria that◦ day, and mustered all Israel.

And he went and sent to▵ Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has broken··away··from me, wilt thou go with◦ me against▵ Moab to battle? And he said, I will go··up; I am, as thou art; my people as▵ thy people; my horses as▵ thy horses.

And he said, Which way shall we go··up? And he said, The way of the wilderness of Edom.

And the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom, and they turned··around, a way of seven days; and there was not water for the camp, nor for the beast that was at their feet.

And the king of Israel said, Alas! for Jehovah has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.
11
And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not◦ here a prophet of Jehovah, that we may inquire of Jehovah from him? And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah◦.

And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Jehovah is◦ with◦ him. And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went··down to▵ him.

And Elisha said unto▵ the king of Israel, What is there to me and to thee*? go unto▵ the prophets of thy father, and to▵ the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings, to give them into the hand of Moab.
14
And Elisha said, As Jehovah of Armies lives, before whom I stand, that if· I did ·not accept the face of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I◦ would not▫ look at▵ thee, and I would not▫ see thee.

And now, fetch for me someone to strum. And it was, when the strummer strummed, that the hand of Jehovah was upon him.
16
And he said, Thus says Jehovah, Make this gully trenches and trenches.
17
For thus says Jehovah, You shall not see wind, and you shall not see a shower, but this◦ gully shall be··full of waters, and you◦ shall drink, and your livestock and your beasts.
18
And this is· a ·light thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and He will give Moab into your hand.
19
And you shall smite every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and block all the fountains of water, and to every good part of the field you shall cause··pain with stones.
20
And it was, in the morning, as the offering··up of the gift··offering, that, behold, water came··in from the way of Edom, and the land was filled with◦ the water.
21
And all of Moab heard that the kings had come··up to fight against◦ them, and they were summoned, from everyone girt with a girdle and upward, and stood by◦ the border.
22
And they got··up··early in the morning, and the sun rose◦ over the water, and Moab saw the water in··front··of them, red as blood.
23
And they said, This is blood; being··wasted the kings have been wasted, and they have smitten each man◦ his companion; and now, Moab, to the spoil!
24
And they came to▵ the camp of Israel, and Israel rose··up and smote Moab, so that they fled from before them, and they came··in unto Moab and smiting smote it.
25
And they broke··down the cities, and on every good part of the field they cast each··man◦ his stone, and filled it; and they blocked every fountain of water, and felled every good tree, until in Kir-chareseth they left nothing but her stones; and the slingers surrounded and smote her.

And the king of Moab saw that the battle was strengthened against him, and he took with◦ him seven hundred men◦ that drew▵ sword, to break through* to▵ the king of Edom; but they were· not ·able.
27
And he took his son, the firstborn, who should have reigned in· his ·stead, and offered· him ·up for a burnt··offering upon the wall. And there was great rage against Israel; and they journeyed from him and returned to the land.
