About: These chapter commentaries are taken from a book of commentary, published in London, in 1860, by Rev. J. H. Smithson. It was entitled, "A New Translation, from the Hebrew, of the Prophet Isaiah: Together with an Exposition of the Spiritual Sense of the Divine Prophecies, from the Theological Works of Swedenborg." Rev. Smithson translated the Hebrew text of the Book of Isaiah into English, and then compiled extensive excerpts from Emanuel Swedenborg's analysis of the spiritual meaning of the text. Rev. Smithson's own comments are fairly sparse, and are shown inside [ ] square brackets. Editors for the New Christian Bible Study Project have updated some archaic language, and have added markup for cross-links to Bible references and references to Swedenborg's works.
