2 Kings 11

1 And Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was··dead, and she arose and made· all the seed of the kingdom ·to··perish.

2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from the midst of the sons of the king who were being put··to··death, him and his nurse, in the bed chamber. And they hid him from the face of Athaliah, and he was not put··to··death.

3 And he was with her in the house of Jehovah, hidden··away six years; and Athaliah reigned over the land.

4 And in the seventh year Jehoiada sent, and he took the princes of hundreds for the Carites and the runners, and brought· them to him ·into the house of Jehovah, and cut a covenant with them, and made them promise in the house of Jehovah, and showed them the son of the king.

5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that you shall do: a third of you shall come··in on the Sabbath, and shall keep the charge of the house of the king;

6 and a third shall be at the gate Sur; a third at the gate behind the runners; and you shall keep the charge of the house, for defense.

7 And two parts* of you all shall go··out on the Sabbath, and shall keep the charge of the house of Jehovah for the king.

8 And you shall encircle the king all around, a man and his weapons in his hand; and he who comes to the planking of the house of Jehovah* shall··be··put··to··death; and you shall be with the king in his going··out and in his coming··in.

9 And the princes of the hundreds did according··to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took each··man his man, those coming··in on the Sabbath and those going··out on the Sabbath, and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

10 And the priest gave to the princes of the hundreds the spears and the shields that belonged to King David, which were in the house of Jehovah.

11 And the runners stood, each··man and his weapons in his hand, from the right wing of the house even··to the left wing of the house, for the altar and for the house, by the king all around.

12 And he brought··out the son of the king, and put upon him the crown and the testimony; and they made· him ·king and anointed him, and they smote the palms together, and said, May· the king ·live!

13 And Athaliah heard the voice of the runners, of the people, and she came··in to the people at the house of Jehovah.

14 And she saw, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, according··to the judgment, and the princes and their trumpets were by the king; and all the people of the land were glad, and sounded the trumpets. And Athaliah rent her garments and proclaimed, Conspiracy, conspiracy!

15 And Jehoiada the priest commanded the princes of hundreds, the overseers of the host, and said unto them, Bring· her ·out from inside the planking; and him who comes after her, put··to··death with the sword; for the priest said, Let· her not ·be··put··to··death in the house of Jehovah.

16 And they set hands on her, and she came by the way the horses come··into the house of the king; and she was··put··to··death there.

17 And Jehoiada cut the covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people, that they should be for a people to Jehovah; and between the king and the people.

18 And all the people of the land came··into the house of Baal, and tore··down his altars, and his images they broke well, and Mattan, the priest of Baal, they killed before the altars. And the priest set overseers overseeing the house of Jehovah.

19 And he took the princes of hundreds, and the Carites, and the runners, and all the people of the land; and they brought· the king ·down from the house of Jehovah, and came· by the way of the gate of the runners ·into the house of the king. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

20 And all the people of the land were··glad, and the city was··quiet; and they put· Athaliah ·to··death with the sword at the house of the king.

21 12:1 And Jehoash was a son of seven years when he became··king.
