The Lord warns those who oppress the poor and crush the needy that they will suffer from hunger, thirst, blight in their gardens and vineyards, also, plague and destruction as in Sodom and Gomarrah. All this suffering will happen because they have not returned to Him. The Lord puts it in terms that He will do these things to the people, but God is love, so a better sense is that sinners bring the evil things on themselves.
