Numbers 16

Lernen

And Korah, the son of Izehar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men;

and they rose··up before Moses, and men from the sons of Israel, fifty and two··hundred chiefs of the congregation, called··upon in the congregation, men with a name;

and they assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much for you; for all the congregation, all of them, are holy, and Jehovah is among them; wherefore then do you lift up yourselves above the assembly of Jehovah?

And Moses heard it, and he fell upon his face;

and he spoke to Korah and to all his congregation, saying, And in the morning Jehovah will know who are His, and who is holy; and will cause him to come··near to Him; and him whom He has chosen will He cause to come··near to Him.

This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his congregation;

and put fire in them, and set incense on them before Jehovah tomorrow; and it shall be that the man whom Jehovah chooses, he shall be holy: you take too much for yourselves, ye sons of Levi.

And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi;

Is it a··little thing to you, that the God of Israel has distinguished you from the congregation of Israel, to offer you to Himself to serve the service of the Habitation of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?

And He has brought· thee ·near, and all thy brothers the sons of Levi with thee; and do you seek even the priesthood?

Therefore thou and all thy congregation are congregated against Jehovah; and Aaron, what is he, that you murmur against him?

And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, who said, We will not go· ·up;

Is it a··little thing that thou hast brought· us ·up from a land that flows with milk and honey, to··put· us ·to··death in the wilderness? For thou makest··thyself··a··prince over us, even making··thyself··a··prince.

Yea, thou hast not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; wilt thou take··out the eyes of these men? We will not go· ·up.

And Moses was very incensed, and said to Jehovah, Turn· not Thy ·face to their gift··offering; I have not carried one donkey from them, and I have not done··evil with one of them.

And Moses said to Korah, Be thou and all thy congregation before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow;

and take each man his censer, and put incense on them, and offer ye before Jehovah each man his censer, fifty and two··hundred censers; and thou, and Aaron, each man his censer.

And they took each man his censer, and put fire on them, and set incense on it, and stood in the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation, and Moses and Aaron.

And Korah assembled all the congregation against them to the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation; and the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the congregation.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

Separate yourselves from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume· them ·all in a moment.

And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt Thou be··enraged against all the congregation?

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Speak to the congregation, saying, Go··up from around the habitation of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

And Moses rose··up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel went after him.

And he spoke to the congregation, saying, Turn··aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch not anything that they have, lest you be consumed in all their sins.

And they went··up from the habitation of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, from all around; and Dathan and Abiram went··out, and stood··up in the entrance of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.

And Moses said, By this you shall know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own heart.

If these die the death of all man, or they be visited with the visitation of all man, then Jehovah has not sent me.

But if Jehovah create a creation, and the ground gape··open with her mouth, and swallow· them ·up, and all that they have, and they go··down alive unto hell; then you shall know that these men have disdained Jehovah.

And it was, as he had completed speaking all these words, that the ground split··open that was under them;

and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed· them ·up, and their houses, and all of man who were for Korah, and all their acquisition.

And they, and all that belonged to them, went··down towards hell alive, and the earth covered over them; and they perished from the midst of the assembly.

And all Israel who were all around them fled at the voice of them; for they said, Lest the earth swallow· us ·up also.

And there came··out fire from Jehovah, and devoured the fifty and two··hundred men who offered incense.

17:1 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

17:2 Say to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he lift··up the censers from between what is burning··up, and disperse the fire beyond; for they are sanctified,

17:3 the censers of these sinners against their own souls, and make them spread··out thin··plates for an overlay for the altar; for they offered them before Jehovah, and they are sanctified: and they shall be for a sign to the sons of Israel.

17:4 And Eleazar the priest took the censers of bronze, with which they who were burnt··up had offered; and they were spread··out for an overlay for the altar;

17:5 To be a memorial to the sons of Israel, that a man, he, that is a stranger, who is not of the seed of Aaron, come· not ·near to burn··incense before Jehovah; and he be not as Korah, and as his congregation; as Jehovah spoke to him by the hand of Moses.

17:6 But on the morrow all the congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, You have put··to··death the people of Jehovah.

17:7 And it was, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turned· their ·faces toward the Tabernacle of the congregation; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared.

17:8 And Moses and Aaron came before the Tabernacle of the congregation.

17:9 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

17:10 Be exalted from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume· them ·all as in a moment. And they fell on their faces.

17:11 And Moses said to Aaron, Take the censer, and put fire on it from on the altar, and set incense on it, and go hastily to the congregation, and make··atonement for them; for the rage has gone··out from before Jehovah; the striking has begun.

17:12 And Aaron took as Moses had spoken, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the striking had begun among the people; and he put on the incense, and made··atonement for the people.

17:13 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the striking was restrained.

17:14 And they who died in the striking were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who died on··account··of the matter of Korah.

17:15 And Aaron returned to Moses to the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation; and the striking was restrained.
