Zechariah 3

Studie

1 And He showed me Joshua the great priest standing before the angel of Jehovah, and Satan* standing at his right··hand to oppose him.

2 And Jehovah said to Satan, Jehovah rebuke thee, Satan. And Jehovah, who has chosen Jerusalem, will rebuke thee. Is not this a firebrand rescued out··of the fire?

3 And Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

4 And he answered and said to those who stood before him, saying, Remove the filthy garments from on him. And to him he said, See, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from on thee, and I will clothe thee with a change··of··vestment.

5 And I said, Let them set a clean tiara on his head. And they set the clean tiara on his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by.

6 And the angel of Jehovah testified to Joshua, saying,

7 Thus says Jehovah of Armies: If thou wilt walk in My ways, and if thou wilt keep My charge, then thou shalt also make··judgment for My house, and shalt also keep My courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these who stand.

8 Hear now, O Joshua the great priest, thou, and thy companions sitting before thee; for these men are a portent; for, behold, I will cause My Servant the Growing··Branch to come.

9 For behold, the stone that I have put before Joshua: on one stone shall be seven eyes; behold, I will engrave its engraving, says Jehovah of Armies, and I will withdraw the iniquity of that land in one day.

10 In that day, says Jehovah of Armies, you shall call, a man to his companion, under the vine and under the fig··tree.

Sit

If you think about sitting, it seems fair to say that where you're sitting is more important than that you're sitting. Sitting in a movie theater, sitting in a classroom, sitting in the driver's seat of a car, sitting in the defendant's seat at a trial, sitting at the family dinner table -- those are very, very different things. But even so, the fact that you're sitting in those places is important -- it means you are part of what's going on, you're staying in place. This is similar to "sitting" in the Bible. Sitting on a throne indicates judgment; sitting in a tent door indicates holiness. The context is crucial. But in all cases "sitting" indicates a sense of permanence, belonging, and full participation in the spiritual state illustrated through the context.
