Numbers 30

Studie

2 And Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes as··to the sons of Israel, saying, This is the word which Jehovah has commanded.

3 A man, when he vows a vow to Jehovah, or promises a promise to bind his soul with a bond, he shall· not ·profane his word; he shall do according··to all that goes··forth from his mouth.

4 And a woman if she vow a vow to Jehovah, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth,

5 and her father hear her vow, and her bond with what she has bound her soul, and her father shall be··silent to her, then all her vows shall be secured, and every bond with what she has bound her soul shall be secured.

6 But if her father disallow her in the day that he hears, All her vows, and her bonds wherewith she has bound her soul, shall not be secured; and Jehovah shall pardon her, for her father disallowed her.

7 And if having she had a husband* when her vows were upon her, or the pronouncement of her lips which she bound on her soul,

8 and her husband heard it and was··silent with her in the day that he heard it, then her vows shall be secured, and her bonds with what she bound her soul shall be secured.

9 But if, on the day her husband heard, he disallowed her, then he shall make··of··none··effect her vow which was upon her, and the pronouncement of her lips, which she bound upon her soul; and Jehovah shall pardon her.

10 But the vow of a widow, and of her who is driven··out, all that she has bound upon her soul shall be secured against her.

11 And if she vowed in the house of her husband, or bound her soul by a bond with a promise,

12 and her husband heard it, and was··silent to her, and disallowed her not, then all her vows shall be secured, and every bond with what she bound her soul shall be secured.

13 But if her husband, making··of··none··effect has made··of··none··effect, on the day he heard them, then all that went··out of her lips as··to her vows, or as··to the bond of her soul, shall not be secured; her husband has made· them ·of··none··effect; and Jehovah shall pardon her.

14 Every vow, and every binding promise to afflict the soul, her husband may secure it, and her husband may make· it ·of··none··effect.

15 But if her husband being··silent was··silent to her from day to day, then he secures all her vows, or all her bonds, which are on her; he secures them, for he was··silent to her in the day that he heard.

16 But if making··of··none··effect he make· them ·of··none··effect after he has heard, then he shall carry her iniquity.

17 These are the statutes, which Jehovah commanded Moses, between a husband and his wife, and between a father and his daughter in her youth in the house of her father.

Soul

The nature of the soul is a deep and complicated topic, but it can be summarized as our spiritual life — that is, who we are in terms of our thoughts and affections. And that, generally, is the internal sense when the Bible talks of a soul. You could be missing limbs, disfigured in the body due to illness or accident, paralyzed, but you would still be a complete human being. That's because the soul is the real you, and the soul has to do with internal things, not the state of your body.
