Numbers 3

Studie

And these are the births of Aaron and Moses in the day that Jehovah spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai.

And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whose hand he filled to be··a··priest.

And Nadab and Abihu died before Jehovah, when they offered strange fire before Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar were··priests before the face of Aaron their father.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Come··near with the tribe of Levi, and stand them before Aaron the priest, and they shall minister to him.

And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of all the congregation before the Tabernacle of the congregation, to serve the service of the Habitation.

And they shall keep all the vessels of the Tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the sons of Israel, to serve the service of the Habitation.

And thou shalt give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; given, they are given to him from among the sons of Israel.

And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood; and the stranger who draws··near shall be put··to··death.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel instead of all the firstborn that opens··up the womb from among the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall be Mine;

for all the firstborn are Mine. On the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified for Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man even··to beast. Mine they shall be; I am Jehovah.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

Number the sons of Levi as··to the house of their fathers, as··to their families; every male from a son of one month and upward shalt thou number them.

And Moses numbered them according to the mouth of Jehovah, as he was commanded.

And these were the sons of Levi by their names; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.

And these are the names of the sons of Gershon as··to their families; Libni, and Shimei.

And the sons of Kohath as··to their families; Amram, and Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

And the sons of Merari as··to their families; Mahli, and Mushi. These are they, the families of the Levites as··to the house of their fathers.

To Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites; these are they, the families of the Gershonites.

Those that were numbered of them, by the number of every male, from a son of one month and upward, even those who were numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred.

The families of the Gershonites shall encamp behind the Habitation toward the sea.

And the chief of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.

And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the Tabernacle of the congregation shall be the Habitation, and the Tabernacle, its covering, and the sheltering for the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation,

and the hangings of the court, and the sheltering of the entrance of the court, which is by the Habitation, and by the altar all around, and its cords for all the service of it.

And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these, they are the families of the Kohathites.

In the number of all the males, from a son of one month and upward were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary.

The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp on the side* of the Habitation southward.

And the chief of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the lampstand, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the sheltering, and all its service.

And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief of chiefs of the Levites, and have the oversight of those who keep the charge of the sanctuary.

Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites; these—they are the families of Merari.

And those that were numbered of them, by the number of all the males, from a son of one month and upward, were six thousand and two··hundred.

And the chief of the house of the father of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail; these shall encamp on the side of the Habitation northward.

And under the oversight and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the planks of the Habitation, and its bars, and its pillars, and its bases, and all its vessels, and all that is of service thereto,

and the pillars of the court all around, and their bases, and their pegs, and their cords.

But those who encamp before the Habitation toward the east, even before the Tabernacle of the congregation toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the sons of Israel; and the stranger who draws··near shall··be··put··to··death.

All that were numbered of the Levites, which Moses and Aaron numbered by the mouth of Jehovah, as··to their families, all the males from a son of one month and upward, were two and twenty thousand.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the sons of Israel from a son of one month and upward, and take··up the number of their names.

And thou shalt take the Levites for Me, I am Jehovah, instead··of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel; and the beasts of the Levites instead··of all the firstborn among the beasts of the sons of Israel.

And Moses numbered, as Jehovah commanded him, all the firstborn among the sons of Israel.

And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a son of one month and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were two and twenty thousand, three and seventy and two··hundred.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Take the Levites instead··of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the beast of the Levites instead··of their beast; and the Levites shall be Mine; I am Jehovah.

And the redeemed, of the three and seventy and two··hundred of those left··over above the Levites from the firstborn of the sons of Israel,

thou shalt even take five, five shekels as··to the poll*, by the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them. Twenty gerahs is the shekel.

and thou shalt give the silver, with which those left··over among them are to be redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons.

And Moses took the silver of the redemption from the excess over those redeemed of the Levites;

from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the silver; five and sixty and three hundred and a thousand, by the shekel of the sanctuary;

and Moses gave the silver of the redeemed to Aaron and to his sons, by the mouth of Jehovah, as Jehovah commanded Moses.
